DUFC News

Friday is the best day of the week, isn't it? Unless of course you don't work because you are loaded, then it's probably Monday because you can sit all smug when everyone's in work and moaning and you're in your swimming pool floating on your wee inflatable while drinking pina coladas.

But I digress, let's make Friday's even better with a new DUFC news

Let's do that really daft thing of ignoring your next, difficulty fixture and look further ahead to the bigger game. That's right, next Friday night sees the return of Scottish football's most entertaining game, the Dundee Derby.

United entertain the wee team across the road and I'm delighted to say that we're pretty much at a sell-out. United have entirely filled the Eddie Thompson, The George Fox and the Shed (yes, the Shed, I'm not calling it the Carling Stand). I think there may be one or two away tickets still floating about but I'm not sure? Maybe Barry will be able to inform us if he's around.

I'm delighted the fans have turned out for this, particularly since some of our friends across the road were positively foaming about not getting into the Shed. Hopefully it'll be a tremendous spectacle and a great advert for the Championship.

Back to this week though and we go to East End Park tomorrow for a tough match against Dunfermline. The Pars are a good side and hopefully the delicious bridies won't be the only thing that the Arabs in attendance enjoy.

The reserves were in action this week and ran out comfortable 5-2 winners over Killie. Interestingly Osman Sow scored a hat-trick and may come into contention for a place in the team this weekend. Ian Harkes also scored a double and will be pushing Stanton for a place. It was a very strong team we put out and shows the depth we have in our squad.

No signings this week, although apparently we're still interested in a wide player, however it's expected that space will need to be made in the squad for him. As noted above, we have depth, but perhaps it's a bloated squad. Time running out though to get things done though. We have however moved to offer new contracts to a number of our younger players, including Robson, Appere, Banks and Mochrie. The latter two have also been included in some of the youth international squads this week, so well done to them.

There was a season ticket holders Q&A last night at Tannadice which was attended by the manager, the captain and Tony Ashgar. By all accounts it was an informative evening and it's good to see the club continue to be more open and transparent under the new owners.

I just want to also mention the fantastic job done by the United Community Trust last week at the Kilt Walk, raising over £8k. I was part of the group (although raised a tiny portion of that sum) and it was a pleasure to be a part of it. I seriously underestimated the walk though and after 25 miles my feet and legs were a mess.

I think what helps us is a new found confidence that we'll score goals, which is obviously based around having Shankland in the team.

I think the energy of Stanton and then Harkes (or vice versa) is going to be a big thing for us this season and I can see one of the two always being in the team, particularly if they're paired with the more static Butcher.

Not able to make it tomorrow (probably won't get to many away games this season because of financial demands) but I'll be at the derby. We can swap notes

There was no chance of getting a ticket. The queue was over a mile long 8 hours before the tickets went on sale to season ticket holders. Dunfermline are pretty decent going forward, especially down the wings.

We were a vastly superior team to Aberdeen on Sunday which was encouraging, even without Hemmings. It was a bit of a free hit though and most teams will be camped in against us instead of being more open like Aberdeen were.

Think this is Stanton’s biggest season for us. He needs to show that he can boss a match when needed. So far I think he’s looked great.

In other news, Dundee United starlet Declan "Deco Gee" Glass has got himself into the SPFL team of the week with another stand-out performance for Cove Rangers. He doesn't appear to do normal goals: https://twitter.com/fitba_am/status/1163378076589481984
