FOREST v PRESTON - Match Thread

So, after picking up 4 points from 2 difficult away games in the League, and then a convincing 3-0 win against Derby in midweek, Forest should be full of confidence

However, we’ve see so many times over the years, that just when things start to look like they’re beginning to click, we’re brought back down to earth with a huge reality check

Preston will be no pushovers, and they’ve already shown this season that they will be a tough outfit - Forest on many occasions have failed to get the upper hand against this tricky team

BUT THIS IS ALSO A FACT - Preston will not relish playing a strong Forest team, who have already shown this season they can mix it with the best and grind out a result

I’m hoping our manger has done his homework, and that he will have the chosen 11 focused on what they need to do. I really hope that Forest will be on the offensive from the start, just like we were against Birmingham and Derby - if...and it’s a big IF, we can keep that up, then I am convinced we can get the 3 points and make it a very successful opening 6 games

COME ON FOREST

Will, they had some good chances in the first half but shot straight at Samba, basically, very wasteful. There tactics were appalling, much the same as last season, Alex Nill said he felt ‘robbed’, I feel the same after having to pay to watch their ‘brand’,of football. Hopefully there kind of football will not prosper. PNE and QPR are renowned for this ‘style’, unfortunately we will see pretty much the same thing when the hoops arrive.

Agree with this. Their goal came when a misplaced, long range shot rebounded kindly.

They did make life more awkward than usual for Dawson and Worrall, and in the first half scared us into bypassing midfield. But their version of the dark arts was so distasteful that I cheered our equaliser just for stuffing that back down their throats, even though we'd played pretty poorly.

Best thing about today, we don’t have to suffer PNE at home again in the league this season. They are awful to watch, I used to think Stoke were ‘anti’ football, PNE have stolen that title. There constant time wasting, feigning injury, coupled with a truly awful referee, made for a thoroughly miserable spectacle. Last season we would have lost that game, at least we salvaged a point. A couple of weeks rest then off to Swansea, another point there and we will be sitting in a very satisfactory position. Swansea will of course be our toughest test yet, and may answer a lot of questions.

No dave, but we do have Cardiff to look forward to.

Seriously there will be other teams who adopt similar tactics and who can blame them. Lamouchi and his coaches must find ways to overcome them.

We could do with more pace, more creativity and a genuine striker who can support Grabban rather than ask a midfielder to do it

On that note, looks like we selling Appiah for 8m 🤔

Yes, Appiah off to the Spanish leagues. £8m is the overall deal if he makes it over there. People who watch the Academy sides reckon Alex Mighten could be the better product.

And prospect

We’ve just got rid of Bridcutt, Murphy and Cummings, the last of which we got a fee for

Some solid transfer graft there

A little surprised that no-one came in for Pantillimon or Yacob.

Not surprised Clough is still here, or that Hefele couldn’t get a move (likely because he’s still not match fit).

All except Clough are strong Championship players and would’ve made strong European, L1 or Scottish signings. Maybe in January?

Great work though. I make that four in the new bomb squad.

Appiah is a strange one. I thought we were light on the wing and up too. Hopefully we’ll see a big money signing in January.

Great deal for Bolton to get Bridcutt and Murphy. They’re after the greatest of escapes airing on -11 points!

Lamouchi has pretty much cleared the decks. Should hopefully make life a little easier on the training ground. I was surprised Pantilimon didn’t sort himself out with a move. I can’t see him getting in the squad at the moment.

Appiah may come back to haunt Forest but the opportunity to level up for FFP was clearly too good to turn down. It’s always a shame to see a youngster leave before they’ve really shown the fans what they can do. The Academy production line is still in full swing so hopefully he won’t be a big miss.
