DUFC News

After the storm comes the relative calm. As we all bask in the glory of the latest demolition derby, it was of course transfer deadline day yesterday.

Nothing came in but a few went out, and we can rejoice in all of them.

First out the door was Freddie Frans. The big defender never really worked out for United and, while popular with the fans, Neilson clearly never fancied him. He's not been in the first team picture for a while and he wasn't even getting a game for the reserves lately. Good luck to him but I'm pleased he's away.

Second out the door was Fraser Aird. The staunch winger started well at United and seemed to have an assist every game. However this was primarily from set pieces and his overall performances often failed to impress. Another who fell from favour under Neilson and he had an unsuccessful loan spell at QOTS last season.

Finally Osman Sow joined Killie on loan (apparently until January, and not the full season as originally reported). This was a bit of a surprise and is probably an indication of just how well Appere has started the season. Sow has underwhelmed since Neilson brought him in and has frequently found himself on the treatment table rather than on the park. I'm not particularly sad to see him go but I did like the depth of having another striker available.

What these three departures do is free up funds (not withstanding any, likely sizeable, pay-offs they would have received). What will we do with the funds?

Rumours yesterday swirled around Kirk Broadfoot signing for United. He was then released from Killie so as a free agent we could still potentially tie that one up. Elliot Frear is still around and may be snatched up, although I'm surprised that hasn't already happened. Maybe Neilson is less concerned about his lack of options there given that Clark has done well in that position and tactically it seems to be working for us.

While not exciting in terms of incomings, I think it was a satisfying day for United and a bit of deadwood has been cast adrift.

Yeah I saw that as well mate. Probably makes more sense for him to go to St Mirren but no idea what's happening. I think he'd be a good signing for United but not convinced it'll materialise.

It has been a good start. But we're United and we can always find creative ways to blow it

Wow. I've been looking all over the Scottish League board for this. Maybe put it on the correct board and get a few more posts.
