Is this the two worse batting sides

in International Test History, Smith apart. Neither England or Australia have any batsmen of real Test Match ability. Most players are struggling to make 20, the odd player plays a 20/20 innings, but they are not really up to Test Match quality.

One day cricket has ruined Test cricket. Shame really, I always thought it the purest form of the game. One day stuff I went off ages ago. Crash, bang wallop not for me.

No, it's two excellent bowling lines up against some average players.

Also, test matches are much more interesting these days now there are more wickets. The most boring thing in cricket is a day where it's 300/1
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That's where we differ, itl shows quality Test hardened batsmen if that is the score after day 1. There is plenty of one day stuff if you want the game over in a day. Most of the modern Test matches, weather aside, barely make Day 4.

Sorry sandy but don’t agree. Much prefer this than 300-1 as mopo pointed out. It’s frustrating but the game swings from one side to another constantly. Love it, absolutely love it

Well most test matches are still lasting 4 or 5 days, so your analysis is a bit off the mark
It does demonstrate that there are a large number of extremely talented bowlers available at the moment for most sides, not so much batsmen

But these things go in cycles and the pendulum will eventually swing back the other way.

Then we'll get back to having drawn matches with neither side finishing their 2nd innings within 5 days

Except for India, all other team's batting in test in all time low

Imo test march batting is unlikely to improve. You won't be getting many Cook's coming through now as t20 is a huge part of any youngster's game. However, even in this series the likes of Buttler have Stokes, who are as good as any at hitting 6s have shown they are capable of knuckling down.

Imo it's all to do with mentality and coaching. We won't be getting Boycott style blocking again, but with the right coaching a player with a reasonable technique can become a top test player.

As I said earlier I am happy with the one day game creeping into test matches as it's more entertaining. I was at the first day of this test and Buttler at the end was brilliant to watch.

England now have 2 openers though, Burns & Denly...

Only bad weather usually gets Test matches anywhere near the 5th day. This looks like being another three and a half day test.

Both sides’ batting is poor but Burns, Stokes, Root, Warner (despite being shiiit this series) and Labuschagne are all clearly test match ability

Sandy, whilst I don’t agree with article entirely.. I get your point test cricket being the purest form, no doubt..
