More than an improvement on Pogba’s recent performances yesterday.
If Ole is to persist with a flat, deep midfield two, and it looks like he will having set up the same way in every game so far this season if I remember correctly, is he a better option than Pogba?
With Pogba on the bench you lose his goals, his creativity and his height, but in reality little else over Matic, and he hasn’t remotely demonstrated that he can create for this attack consistently from our defensive and middle thirds, and equally he won’t be arriving in the box on the end of moves. Basically, comfortably his greatest advantages are completely neutralized in this setup.
With Matic you have a more reliable and dependable custodian of the ball who won’t disappear and leave McT completely isolated, or be found wandering around thirty five yards out because he doesn’t know whom to pick up or what he should be doing.
Time to drop Pogba?

We aren’t going to drop the formation by the looks of it though.
Five games in and we’ve started 4-2-3-1 with a deep midfield pair and a front four every week.
I know many people want to see us playing with a midfield three. God knows, I am one of them and have been shouting that since Pogba signed.
But the question is: Given that we will be playing 4-2-3-1, should Ole drop Pogba?

I hear what you’re saying. It’s not about whether Matic is better than Pogba as a football player. It’s about who the better player in a 2 which despite what fans want, it looks like Ole is going to go with.
It’s about who the best player for the position is and if Matic is that guy and we won’t be playing Pogba in a more forward position it’s common sense to do what you’re proposing

No. Just change his position to the #10. 4-2-3-1 doesn't perfectly suit Pogba in any role, but he's still a much better option at #10 (even if he plays/adapts the role slightly) than Mata, Pereira or Lingard.

Not sure what game you were watching but that donkey have the ball away so much in the first half he should have been shot. The guy is virtually immobile. McT was doing a double shift just to keep us in the game.
Fred should be playing next to McT, Pogba in front of them and Matic's contract should be cancelled!

Matic was linked with Inter in the summer. I think they made a £10m offer but we deemed it too low. To be honest, if we had got in two MFs, I'd have let him go for that much.
