Is Rashford a Problem?

I don't want this to be a Rashford-bashing thread, as it seems quite popular recently, the lad is still only 21. But the amount of chances he misses and wrong decisions he makes is too much right now.

I'd currently rather see a front 3 of James - Martial - Greenwood than anything else right now until Rashford finds his form again or fixes his ideas up. Would prefer Mason as ST, but Martial needs to keep playing there.

Fred looked good, as did Gomes(very tidy and quick player on the ball, just what we need). Tuanzebe also looked very solid.

It was always going to be difficult for a young team with 9 changes to the first team to break down Astana, who offered very little and sat with 10men behind the ball most of the game.

Sterling has learnt a lot from Pep. Remains to be seen whether or not Ole can do the same for our young players

Sterling’s always been a very intelligent player. He’s obviously developed more and gone up a level at City, but he had a good footballing brain to begin with. Rashford is lacking in comparison. And where Ole will be lacking as a coach in comparison to Pep, we as a team and squad are also lacking in quality and intelligence compared to City so Rashford lacks the top professionals in the squad that can aid his development.

What irritates about Rashford is not his poor form. It's his attitude, his arrogance, and his nonchalance. Take, for example the opportunities he missed yesterday. There was something disgustingly arrogant about the way he tried to score. And for this, and for his own good, he needs to be dropped. I also think that Lingard is a bad influence on him.

If you can't read Rashford's arrogance in his body language, then you are either blind or stupid.

I think Mourinho making Rashford bulk up ruined his finishing ability. Now he just likes hitting the ball hard but can't finish. Turned into Welbeck for us. Just hoping Greenwood can be the striker we need. We create a lot of chances and Rashford messes most of them. If you analyse our struggles since April last season to now, its nothing to do with tactics. We outplayed the opposition pretty much every game but we can't finish and the opposition are lethal. The opposition need very few shots to score against us but we need tons of shots just to score. You see teams fighting regularly for top 4 like Arsenal and Spurs usually need tons of shots against them to concede and very few shots to score. We are the only top 6 side who need tons of shots to score and very few shots to concede.

I suppose the fact he has had the best chances of any player in the league even if that includes pens and also probably the most chances in the EL means all he needs to work on is his finishing. Its amazing footballers at Man Utd get paid so much but can't shoot a ball past a keeper.

If I was the Glazers I would add a clause to every new contract that if you are wasteful in front of goal you will get 1/2th your wages. Noticed since SAF left we must have had so many one sided games we failed to win due to wasteful finishing by us and clinical finsihing by the opposition. You rarely see any top team be so inefficient at both ends as we have been since SAF left.

If you look at the Wolves, Palace, and Southampton games, any other side than us with that domination would have won by a few goals going by the positions we got ourselves in and siege of attacks we had. How can we drop 7 points in games the opposition barely went into our half in those 3 games. Even the Europa League game the opposition were just allowing us to attack all game and we create the chances and miss them regularly. Missed about 4 great chances.

The thing is Solskjaer is having to have us play like title winners to scrape top 4. Last season bad run of form was nothing to do with tactics. De Gea was having howlers and not really saving anything last couple of months of the season while we were needing nearly 30 shots per goal.

"Is Rashford a Problem?

nope, but he is a symptom

'the problem(s)' = the academy, scouts, direction and transfer policy (much of which is interlinked)

I was laughing more at the idea that Lingard is a “bad influence” on Rashford.

Facking hell, people really hate Jesse, don’t they?!

Lambeau

He is 22 next month. He has been around long enough now to not be a youngster.

That’s true. I’ve had my own doubts about him for a while now. I’ve questioned his mentality and decision making, but have given him the benefit of the doubt - inconsistent management and team selection possibly being a factor.

He definitely needs to improve, but I don’t fully understand what’s behind his regression from his first couple of years in the team. I think he’s seriously let down by the lack of leaders in our team.
