Leeds Utd v Derby Matchday Thread

Welcome to the Matchday Thread...……………..
Back Home and a visit from Derby County going to be a cracker of a game, despite what MB says about last season having no bearing on the game I can see the Lads looking for a bit of revenge

Venue...Elland Road...Date...21st Sept...Kick Off 1230hrs

Team News
Leeds United
Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has forward Tyler Roberts and defender Luke Ayling fit for the visit of Derby but both will only make the bench at best.
Midfielder Adam Forshaw (hip) is set to miss out so Jamie Shackleton will start in his place once again.
*Patrick Bamford has started every game for Leeds but could make way for Eddie Nkeiah, who has scored two goals in 78 minutes of action across four substitute appearances.
The * comment is pure speculation from an article in the "Express"

Derby County
Derby are without winger Tom Lawrence through suspension but manager Phillip Cocu is otherwise set to name the same side which drew with Cardiff. apparently Bogle is still out injured.
Defenders Andre Wisdom and Craig Forsyth are unlikely to feature.

Match facts
This is the first meeting between Leeds and Derby since the Championship play-off semi-final second leg in May when Derby came from 1-0 down to win 4-2 and progress to the final 4-3 on aggregate.
Derby are looking to win consecutive matches against Leeds in all competitions for the first time since a run of 10 wins between December 2006 and October 2013.
Leeds striker Eddie Nketiah is averaging a goal every 62 minutes in all competitions for the Whites this season, scoring four times in 246 minutes of action.
Derby are winless in six matches in all competitions (D3 L3), their longest sequence without a win since a run of eight under Gary Rowett between February and March 2018.
Excluding play-offs, Leeds' Ezgjan Alioski has been involved in four goals in his last three league games against Derby County (two goals, two assists).
Derby have drawn their past three Championship matches when scoring the first goal, including their most recent game at home to Cardiff City.

That's it then, obviously gonna be a tough game but we really need to start beating teams at Home, can see this turning a bit feisty but I think we have enough to send Derby home with nothing............…. A tasty 2-0 for me with Bamford getting the Fans on their feet with both goals

Would have agreed with that statement last season Don - but not this. We’ve been bitten last season with the same logic. We destroyed derby today, dominated Swansea and had ample chances vs Forest - 2 points from a possible 9! Ruthless league this. Forgives no one

We should not paly at home anymore ! 2 more points dropped, the way it's going we just can't go up.

That's fine Don. And I agree we played them off the park first half. But, with MB's style of play, we create a lot of opportunities through a lot of possession. We don't score enough goals to reward our work. Fact.

There's a lot defending Bamford's ability to hold the ball up. For who? Who's linking up right now with and scoring at a high clip thanks to Bamford's doing that? It makes no sense. He needs to be delivering goals.

And I may be alone here but the primary function of a lone striker is to score goals. Bamford isn't. It remains to be seen if MB agrees or not. He may well stick with Bamford. Fact is, unless Bamford starts scoring, we're wasting a ton of points early in the season that will bite us in the rear later.

Usual over reaction in places, if we were playing badly i would be worried, but for the most today we were excellent

Would you like it if we played really well all season and did not go up ! Think about it pal and wake up...

If bamford is a ball holder all of a sudden that’s news to most Leeds fans because when you play a single striker up front - would normally mean he’s there to do one thing primarily- score goals!!!! If we are now saying he’s playing the Heskey role, ok, play Eddie upfront with him then and we need to go 4-4-2 you’d think? !

Yes! Two up top at home.

I think a lot of people here in denial. These sort of results are going to cost us promotion.

Spot on

If anyone is happy with today's performance, they need medical attention. 1 of us could have played in goal for Derby today. He barely touched the ball depsite is having about 70% possession.

Imagine in a boxing match, the champ throws 200 punches and lands 1, the challenger throws 1 and lands it to earn a draw

Early days. I'd rather be top than bottom, though.

Nketiah could have had some fun during our early blitz, time to start him AND Bamford.

If you draw your home games and win your away games you'll be near the top
