💦Palace v Wolves💦[LIVE]

Have no fear threadsters, Halfy’s at the wheel again

One match ban enabled

Crystal Palace are weighing up whether to recall fit-again defender James Tomkins after he was named as a substitute last week at Tottenham.

James McArthur and Cheikhou Kouyate have both overcome recent injuries but Connor Wickham remains an absentee.

Wolves centre-back Willy Boly is available after a one-match league ban.

Fellow defender Ryan Bennett is also pushing for a recall, while forward Patrick Cutrone may keep his place after impressing in the Europa League.

@TonyHusband: Europe is dominating the news headlines at the moment and it will be a subject of much debate if you're a Wolves fan too. Thursday's opening Europa League group stage match was their 12th game of what is feeling like a long season already at Molineux.

Europe has been both a blessing and a curse so far for Nuno Espirito Santo's team. They've won six games in the early rounds, including an impressive victory at Serie A side Torino, which somewhat masks their failure to win in the top flight.

At Crystal Palace they'll find a home team who will be eager to erase memories of their walloping last week. Goals have been in short supply at Selhurst Park this season and I expect it may only take the odd goal to decide this one.

VIEW FROM THE DUGOUT

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson: "They (Wolves) have had a few disappointing results, and they will be upset about the cruelty of fate. I watched their Europa League game and if a team was going to win, I thought it would be them, so to lose will be a bitter blow.

"I think they have been a bit unlucky. I would base my judgement more on the football they play, rather than the results."

Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo: "We face the reality and the reality says we not performing well, so we have to analyse it and find solutions in the team to improve. This is what we have to do, we have to come strong on Sunday, we must react immediately."

Head-to-head

Crystal Palace have won three of their past four league matches against Wolves.

The away side has won six of the last eight league meetings.

We certainly need to change a few things from today. It’s essential we get the best out of our best players and we just didn’t do that today. Boly playing on the right, Doherty hardly getting forward because Traore was ahead of him, Jota playing wide which we know from the first part of last season isn’t the way to get the best out of him, Jiminez missing the link up play with Jota and playing the lone central striker role which wastes his skills, and Neves on the bench. If we don’t get the best out of those players we certainly won’t be troubling the top half of the table. The only reason to change from last year’s team to me is if it is felt important to play Traore. No question he is doing better this season, but I still think we are a better balanced team without him, and using him as an impact sub would still be the role I would choose for him

Agree with pretty much all of that Spangles.

It's certainly disappointing when you look at the league table, but I really don't think we should be too disheartened.

If you look at our start to the season, points at Leicester and against Man Utd are certainly very welcome, as was today's in the end. Dropping a point at home to Burnley was disappointing, and we could easily have got something at Goodison.

Yes, we got trounced by Chelsea but I was at the match and except for a crazy half hour I don't think we played too badly. Chelsea are still a good side as they showed today against Liverpool.

All in all a return of six points from the opening six matches would not have been too unexpected, so we're not a million miles behind expectations.

I recognise the performances have been a bit below par, but the European encounters must have taken their toll even if few people at the club want to admit it.

I know football is all about what-ifs, but except for the great goal that Chelsea opened their account with, and that huge deflection today we might be so much better off points wise. We weren't far away from a point against Everton either.

Now if we don't beat Reading and get 3 points against Watford then feel free to disregard all that I've just written.

Let's see how we all feel after next weekend. Then all we have to do is perform in the hell's kitchen which is Turkey and come home to play Man City.

This is what football's all about.

Yeah I think Watford is a big game now though, it is one we have to be taking three points from as if we don't that will be seven without a win in the league and whether we like it or not Nuno will be coming under pressure big time if that happens.

It's a freebie midweek, many changes and not really a big deal win or lose given the other fish we have to fry, that said a few(not here I might add) will shat the bed and jump all over us if we don't beat Reading and try to create this 'crisis mode' we get caught up in.

Can’t believe how hopelessly shiiiit wolves have become.

an away draw at leicester, if we're hopelessly sh!t then what does that make you ?

with our results the danger is to over react.
by any prem standards we have a good goalie, a good defence and good forwards - seems pretty clear to me that the problem is midfield.

I think Neves, Moutinho and Dendoncker are all plenty good enough Wolfgang but at the moment we aren’t getting the best out of our defenders, midfielders or forwards. We need to establish a settled side for the league games as we did last season and at some stage get the first goal in a game which makes the world of difference

don't agree regarding midfield dj, none of those three are in top form and we create little. if anything if you judge creativity by assists, which isn't quite the same thing i know, then traore is our most creative player.

posted on 23/9/19

I would agree maybe not top form but what I would say is that they are very good players as they proved last season. Our team haven’t suddenly become poor players but I do think we aren’t getting the best out of them right now, I think probably because the team is being changed every game. Traore to be fair has been doing better than most

We are now bad enough for me to return just to announce how bad we are

To solve all our problems...just bring back Bennett.
