You're the gaffer. Fix it.

I created an article among these lines over a year ago, before Jose started shooting holes in his own ship.

What would you do differently to the current manager to improve results and the football if he is so hopeless as some would have you believe.

Ignore changes to the squad, this is the here and now. How do you get this team to beat Newcastle?

Shaw, Pogba, Martial all likely to still be injured though AWB could be back.

For me:

--------------------------------DDG-------------------------------
AWB------------Axel-------------------Maguire------------Rojo
------------------------------Lindelof-----------------------------
-----------------Pereira-----------------McT---------------------
Dalot-----------------------Rashford-----------------------James

Change from the 4231. We don't have the top class midfielders or dominant centre forward for it.

Use Tuanzebe as a sweeper with pace and move the defence up the pitch 15 yards. Tell Harry to go and win the ball and get tight to the opposing forwards knowing Axel is behind him.

Tell the full backs to overlap at every opportunity.

Lindelof moved into DM as Matic and Fred shouldn't get near the team. Also turns into 3 CBs at the back with AWB and Rojo pushed up the pitch. Removes risk of his weakness in winning headers at the back and we get more benefit of his ball playing ability.

Tell McT to bomb into the box when the ball gets wide and add aerial presence for crosses.

Pereira on set piece duty and instructed to find the 3 forwards in behind and shoot when he has the chance

Tell Rashford to hang on the last man and stay central. Economy of effort too, no good chasing lost causes or a 1 man press. Make him watch tapes of Aguero in his game management. We have a lightning quick striker whose pace is lost when he is making constant 40 yard sprints or taking up the ball 50 yards from goal.

On occasion ignore the trend of trying to work it from the back. Send it long from goal kicks and Lindelof and McT in midfield should win enough and flick it on to our forwards.

Rely on beating your man and quick, direct passing. We're not good enough to implement a Barca like carousel and break teams down through starving them of the ball. Take chances in passing and accept the risk of losing the ball.

Wow.

Conveniently forgetting that with these same players, we employed an inept manager and he took us down to the slums with him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Aye, nobody disputing Moye's ineptness. That Utd team and managerial situation was the perfect illustration of the best summation of management I've seen.

The legendary Italian coach, Giovanni Trapattoni, once addressed that question by saying, “a good manager can make a team 10 percent better, a bad manager can make that same team 30 percent worse.”

No doubt that Fergie squeezed 10 per cent extra out of the team and Moyes made it a lot worse than it actually was.

Do you think Ole is making this side 30% worse than it should be? Or are we getting performances and results in line with Pogba, Martial, Shaw and AWB being injured and being replaced by OAPs and youngsters?

Benched, tbh I'd love to see that line-up out there, and think it's the best we can do. I've been wanting Lindelof to move to a CDM since last season, but in reality, I expect Ole to do what he knows, and nothing else. Expect to see a 4-2-3-1 and Young at LB. Rojo and Dalo nowhere in the side and Matic and Scott in a 2-man midfield. Dreadful and we'll get another draw at best. Ole's sinking and doesn't have an idea man to help him. Carrick and Mick aren't "idea men" they are helpers. Your line-up offers a lot of flexibility and plays to the individual strengths of those players. We'll not see anything that "progressive". Damned shame at that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think it sets the team up well. Insert Shaw, Pogba and Martial for Rojo, Pereira and Dalot when available and in the same system they should thrive.

Seen it pointed out elsewhere but when the pressure is on managers they take less risks. Ole is falling into the same trap when now is actually his opportunity to do so. It's his free hit.

I also fully expect what you describe. Axel will get a start though in place of Lindelof I suspect but Young is a cert and have a feeling Pereira will be dropped.

If I were a United fan I'd be extremely worried about the lack of football the team play. No style, no possession, no intensity. You have players who are fair enough, some good young talent, some exciting players but on the pitch, they are muddling through trying to take advantage of moments of individual quality or opposition mistakes.

Tactically, the set up is just years behind as most teams now are good in possession and in transition whereas United seem solely able to play counter and with varying success.

I agree with the need for a long term plan - just look at Liverpool and City - but you need the right people to do that and I am not sure Solskjaer is the man.

The job of a manager is to make average players sometimes look good. Ole has not got it in him. Time is up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He managed to do it for the first dozen or so games...how did he do that...?

Paul Ince has your answer. He summed it up perfectly and many people called him an idiot. This is not the first time a manager has come in to a side lacking in confidence and lift the mood.
