A slightly spoilery discussion thread for anyone who's seen it already.
My take on it..
A solid 6.5/10. Phoenix's performance is incredible, the cinematography beautiful, and the score sets the tone throughout.
However, it's pretty dull as a film. Although short in run time, it felt like an enternity to get through it all.. the second act sags heavily. A lot of the plot beats were obvious (talking about the delusions).
To sum it up.. possibly the most depressing comedy I've ever seen. A confused film.
As disjointed as Phoenix's physical performance.. he can't half contort his body into creepy and elegant poses.

Hard to compare Ledger and Phoenix ones imo, they’re different characters. They’re both clowns and called the joker but apart from that there’s not much which is very similar.

Agreed, very different characters, I couldn't really imagine Phoenix's version as a baddie in a batman film but in terms of performance I might give him the edge, would need to re watch Ledger's performance to be fair.

Phoenix Joker (as amazing as his performance is) just doesn't feel like the Joker at all.
Almost felt like a completely different character who's just had the Joker name tagged onto him.
