TUESDAY 15th OCTOBER

Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court

Tom Lawrence and Mason Bennett will appear in court to hear their fate

I don’t think it will happen, but anything less than a jail term will be appalling, and will once again just show how corrupt and inadequate our judicial system really is

If you could see the damage that was done to the car, and imagine what would have happened if they’d actually hit a person, they would surely have been facing the consequences of killing someone

The fact that the Club imposed just a 6 week fine on them says everything about the Club really, they should have been sacked immediately, the FA should have imposed sanctions on them - a 6 week pay fine is ludicrous - the amount they earn, it will have no impact on them whatsoever

THERE’S JUST NO EXCUSE

“Lawrence and Bennett also face the possibility of a separate legal action from Keogh, who has been ruled out for at least 15 months with an ACL injury and may never play again at a professional level.

The 33-year-old's anger has been compounded by the fact that he was left unconscious by his team-mates at the scene of the crash, where he was found by paramedics.

The three other Derby players are understood to have fled the crash site on the A6 in Allestree in Bennett's car in a blind panic before returning when they realised that Keogh was not with them.

The crash followed a boozy night out involving the majority of Derby's squad at the Joiners Arms pub in nearby Quarndon, which has had major ramifications for the club's season.

The bonding session also resulted in Tom Huddlestone being stripped of the captaincy a day after he was appointed to replace the injured Keogh.

The 32-year-old midfielder was not involved in the crash but was punished by the club after footage emerged on social media of him filming Bennett being sick in the toilets at the Joiners Arms."

I’ll put very good money on them not being sent down.

They won't go to prison for it. Be a driving ban and a fine.

The fact they failed to stop at the scene of an injury RTC won’t be looked on well but still don’t think it would persuade the Mags. Don’t know if either have any previous offences, though.

Both been handed 12-month community orders and have been disqualified from driving for two years.

The pair must carry out 180 hours of unpaid work and pay costs of £85 as well as a £90 victim surcharge.

The court was told that Lawrence uses alcohol for confidence issues and is “quite dependent” upon it.

Part of Lawrence's defence was that he was grieving over the death of a family member, and was using alcohol to help him get through it.

If that was the case why weren't members of his family and friends (if he has any) keeping an eye on him to prevent him doing something this stupid?

Probably were concerned about him but people with addictions are notoriously hard to help and often react worse to advice from their nearest and dearest rather than a stranger.
