In 1927-28 Spurs were relegated with 38 points, amazingly what now would have a been a CL spot 4th place, Derby got 44 points, so just six points separated 4th from relegation. Everton won the league that season with 53 points from 42 games, only 16 points above the bottom club Middlesbrough who got 37 points. That season Spurs actually finished their season in front of most other teams, and at the end of their season were comfortably sitting midtable with their 38 points, when the season finally finished, relegation beckoned. Seven team above Spurs finished on 39 points, and a top half finish only needed 41 points. Such were the fine margins of that season.
Just shows you anything can happen in football.

Whatever some of you might say or think about Sandy, there is no doubt in my mind he is very passionate about Spurs and truly loves the club. His knowledge is as good as any on here, including me and I have supported the club since 1958.
Whilst I sometimes think Sandy posts to wind up some fans, I don’t always agree with him, especially with regard to getting rid of Poch.

In those days the teams had to travel by train to away games which is why you saw teams beat somebody 6-0 at home and then lose 4-0 to them away a matter of days later.
Travelling to the likes of boro (or them coming to us) was energy sapping to say the least
