SHEER CLASS

That must be one of the best assist's of all time. What Ozil did last night was utter brilliance for Arsenals 4th goal.

There are not many other players who could, and would of even thought to do that.

The more I see it the better it gets. Don't care if he is lazy he should be playing all the time. Football should be entertaining and that was.

Take a bow son.

That doesn't mean he's communicating what's expected clearly and concisely though.

With this rift I certainly think there's blame on both sides, but I've seen enough from Ozil in the past to suggest he can still be a top CAM for us. I haven't seen anything from Emery that suggests that he can be a top manager for us unfortunately.

I just don't think:

"Work harder" and/or "help your teammates press" can really be confused or misinterpreted.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah but if I go into work and I'm not given a clear and defined role, apart from 'work hard' I may put that energy into the wrong thing.

Similarly it's pretty hard to put together a really cohesive press, otherwise everyone would do it. Doesn't seem like Emery wants to or is capable.

You're not wrong there and you are more than likely correct about Emery & his staff failing to communicate effectively with many of the players but in the case of an individual not following directions which are set for the whole team when everyone else manages to that's not relevant to Ozil.

Like I say, blame on both sides. Ozil clearly wasn't good enough before his expulsion from the team, but since then Emery hasn't been good enough at building a cohesive team to account for not having Ozil.

They both need to put aside their differences, work together and put the club before any ego and then everyone will benefit. We'll see.

I'd actually say that Emery hasn't been good enough at building a team to account for not having Ramsey.

Since Ramsey left Emery has failed to fill that more creative void in midfield because he knows Ozil is not the answer with the tactics he wants to play. Ramsey was more suited to Emery's tactics than Ozil is. Whilst his best through ball / killer pass is not as good as Ozil's best he did provide pretty much our only goals from midfield, Ozil doesn't score many as well as some assists/work-rate and more defensively than Ozil can too.

It's also why our best performances last season were often when Ramsey was playing.

Would agree with this but also add that it's probably partly down to the fact that Xhaka is a bit of a passenger too, but he's number 1 on Emery's teamsheet. Ramsey's energy meant he could be creative and also solid in the midfield, Ozil isn't that kinda player.

Whilst Xhaka is not Ozil-level of passenger defensively he does too often do things which are equally bad like losing possession cheaply and giving penalties/dangerous free-kicks away that cost us time and time again. Sometimes he can be very pedestrian with his defensive duties/closing down as well, I don't think that is helped by his severe lack of acceleration/pace in general either.

This from someone who has just publicly stated that he always gives 100% on the pitch and off of it. I guess he's giving all that a limited football player with moderate intelligence can give, of course he loves the club, despite our recent failings it's still beyond the level of any club he should ever have managed to reach.

Problem is you can’t really justify not playing Ozil, because he’s a defensive liability, all the while picking Xhaka week in week out. Emery’s squad management has been terrible.

Great comment.

That's basically it, Emery has no argument while Xhaka who offers nothing defensively or offensively is playing every week. At least with Ozil you get some good games

After all these years some people are realising the true worth of Ozil. Gotta laugh!!

He had gone off the boil before Emery and has largely been poor under him, that said he was once a brilliant player. On top of that there are levels of poor performance and Xhaka has been considerably worse.

It's likely Ozil will need to leave on order for us to properly progress though, his wages mean he'll always be a problem when we are negotiating with other players
