Children under the age of 11 should avoid heading the ball, according to new advice for clubs from the Scottish Youth Football Association (SYFA).
The group is advising youth coaches to remove drills involving headers from all training sessions, and also recommends heading "as far as possible, is also eliminated from games".
It comes after a recent study suggested former footballers are approximately three-and-a-half times more likely to die from neurodegenerative disease than the general population.
Is it not because the older balls were like medicine baws..?
There's nowt better than scoring a header - shame it's being left out.
Keep the high baws low

I enjoy heading the ball and was reasonably good in the air given that I'm just under 6 foot.
Having said that, the amount of times the ball has come out of the air with snow on it and the header has been a proper teeth rattler, it must have done a bit of damage in there.
Ultimately kids that age shouldn't be heading the ball anyway and from what I've seen of my nephew playing football, most of them are scared to head the ball until they're approaching their teens anyway

So they can still hoof it over the defenders just the defenders have to get in a foot race. Smart
