Arsenal's under-fire captain Granit Xhaka has been left out of the squad to face Wolves following his show of dissent to supporters last weekend.

Mesut Ozil could keep his place after impressing against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.

Wolves defender Willy Boly has had surgery on his broken left shin bone.

Ryan Bennett is unavailable because of a groin problem, while midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White will have a back injury assessed.

Arsenal captain Xhaka says he 'reached boiling point'
MOTD COMMENTATOR'S NOTES

@Wilsonfooty: Unai Emery had two major selection dilemmas ahead of the visit of Wolves. He has answered one of them already, opting not to expose Granit Xhaka to Arsenal's fans following the captain's tantrum last weekend. Secondly, should he include Mesut Ozil after his delightful display in Wednesday's extraordinary League Cup game at Anfield?

Wolves also exited that competition in midweek, but head coach Nuno Espirito Santo will have shed few tears at unloading some of the burden on his squad.

Speckled between their Europa League appearances, Wolves have quietly built a five-match unbeaten run in the Premier League, moving from 19th place to 12th in the process.

A repeat of the draw they earned at the Emirates last November would suit him nicely.

VIEW FROM THE DUGOUT

Arsenal head coach Unai Emery on Granit Xhaka: "We need time to recover the normality in him and for us. It's not in my mind that he will play tomorrow.

"Now we need to focus 100% on the match. Now we are going to train and at the moment he is not in my mind."

Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Nuno Espirito Santo: "We know it will be very, very difficult. Arsenal have a fantastic squad and a very good manager, so it's going to be very difficult.

"We don't look at the table. We compete against every opponent that we have in front of us in all competitions."

I don't see anyone of note leaving in the near future. Why would we want to sell our best players?

We are on a journey together, a road of discovery if you will. The power of the Wolf is in the Pack. 🐝

Hopefully the only reason we would sell is if we have improved the squad to the point where we can let some move on. Cav and Costa have become surplus to requirements, who's to say we can't recruit better than their replacements.

Plus there's every chance some players might want to further their careers at champions league clubs. The pace of the club's progress may not match the ambition of some. It happens unfortunately.

And we might need to move players on in order to develop the squad. Ffp may require this.

Horrible injury to Andre Gomes this afternoon, had been playing well, will be a big miss for Everton. Doubt he'll play again this season, didn't look like it was a clean break.

I don’t think ffp will be a problem now. The club made a decent profit last year and it’s that which determines ffp not the amount spent on transfers.

We have some very good players so inevitably some clubs will come sniffing around. For the likes of Boly and Jiminez in their late 20s they might be attracted by one large transfer and signing on fee. Neves and Jota are still young and could become as good as any player in their positions in Europe. So the longer we keep them the more they will be worth.

I feel the team is improving as the season goes on and I see no reason why we can’t qualify for Europe again next season. And we can get to the latter stages of this seasons Europa League also. So at the moment I don’t see that staying with Wolves is holding back anyone’s career.

But the key to holding our best players is probably holding on to our manager. And it would be no surprise to see some of the biggest clubs in England and other parts of Europe trying to prise him away in the summer

One of our best players yesterday was Jonny and I think he is possibly the most under rated star of our team.

Seems that he stayed over in London after the game and went to Wembley today to see the Houston Texans thrash the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL

That seemed pretty horrific. In the David Busst category. Could be a career ending injury sadly

After being convinced to remain on the pitch Balotelli ended up scoring a screamer at the end he received the abuse, unfortunately they still lost the game

Just seen some of the x rated photos from that incident and I would be amazed if he played again, just hope he is able to get on ok with his life. Have to say I feel sorry for Son who didn’t deserve a red card for his part in the incident. The main cause of the injury actually came when the Spurs player behind him caught his foot

I've not seen the pictures, but you could see on tv just after it happened that stuff wasnt where it was supposed to be. The physios will have known what to do and were there immediately, pretty amazing what surgeons can do these days, hope he can recover.
