Lewis Hamilton

just won his 6th world title. 1 behind Schumacher.

the question is, is he really an amazing driver or a very good one in an amazing car?

since the V6 Hybrid engines came in, Mercedes have one every individual title. only Hamiltons team mate beat him to the world title and that's when it was more of an even team now, its clear Bottas has to move over for Hamilton.

during this season when Ferrari figured a few things out and could match Mercedes, Le clerc was uncatchable until the usual Ferrari breakdown occurred.

makes me wonder really how good Hamilton actually is or is he just like Vettel was in the 5 years before the V6's when no-one could catch the Red Bull car.

talented driver sure, but 'that' much better than his peers....I can't see it

Ferrari had the faster car for a lot of races idk in what way you think mercedes is vastly superior if it was hamilton and bottas would have qualified 1st and second a lot more times than they did dont ya think?

Mercedes has a superior team ill give you that. But the competition aint hard to beat in that regard.

Hamilton acts like a winner who demands the best cause he is the best, if you dont like that then you dont understand a winners mentality.

He is a true great. I don't know too much about F1, but his peers are nearly unanimously. See Jonathan Palmer in today's Guardian.
Likeable? I don't know, but it's not a requisite.

Very good, consistent driver in by far the best car. Deserved title win, everyone else made mistakes week in week out, he didn't.

preferred driver? wasnt it only in october hamilton was claiming toto favoured bottas in Japan? fact is they both had 4 or 5 grid ones both in the same cars hamilton won 10 bottas won 4.

also if ferrari hadnt made so many strategic and driver errors they'd have beaten bottas to 2nd too.

that's the one thing that has made me never able to warm to Hamilton.

he constantly berates his team when he doesn't win.

forgets how its their set ups, strategies etc that make him win, yet one bad result and he's acting like a prima donna
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah, that's not really entirely true is it?

Yes he questions them, but he also holds his hands up and apologies to them when it's his fault. They push each other, which is what you need at the elite levels of sport.

I never really fully get the abuse he receives as he's no different to any other driver on the grid when it comes to complaining. Jenson Button also did it every week, the only difference with Button was that he smiled at the time he was roasting his team or the competitors etc...

Best car + elite driver = 6 world titles. Again, I don't believe he is that much better than say Vettel, who kept winning when he had the best car. But fair play to him, swap them and Hamilton probably runs Vettel a little bit closer in the Ferrari but I don't belive there is that much in it.

Vettel is still the youngest ever winner, he has that in his favour. Any of the drivers could win in the Mercedes, its faster, way more reliable and has an immaculate team behind it.

Bottas can't.

And that's exactly what Vettel had when he was with red bull and Hamilton was at McLaren. I bet if they were in the same car Hamilton still.comes out on top. People forget how adaptable a driver he is. Christ it was only the race before last that he did nearly 45 laps on the hard tyre that was only supposed to do 30 and still won the race. He's definitely the best in the wet by a long shot and he's tactically brilliant. I don't believe there's a better driver out there who's better than him. He's cleaned up which is highly commendable under whatever circumstances people want to apply, he's still been the best driver when he's won. He'll rightfully be acknowledged as one of, if not the best driver of all time. People who don't like will say otherwise but his stats say different.

And Hamilton took the gamble on them

He should get credit for it. There were many questioning his decision at the time
