I'll be honest, I didn't see this result coming.

After a poor run of away form, and to be honest unconvincing home form despite the winning run at Tannadice, I would have bit your hand off for a draw. Instead United went to the Highlands and came back with all three points.

Given that I've just moved house and the amount of work I have to do is to be frank terrifying, I wasn't at the game, but by the sounds of things it was a very good performance with United taking the game to their opponents, which is something we don't do nearly enough.

You'll have probably seen the goals, but if not the first was an own goal after a driven cross, the second a fine finish from Clark (who has added to the team since his return from injury) and then a penalty from Shankland after Smith was fouled in the area.

The game seemed to turn on Keatings missing a big chance for them at 1-0 and then we went up the park and scored. This is the difference for me between the previous seasons and this seasons - we're far more clinical. It used to be us missing the big chances that turn the game. Now we take them. If you want to win the league you have to take your chances when they come and these days I've every confidence we will take our chances.

The win keeps us cushioned at the top of the table, which was important given that Ayr predictably humped Partick and Dundee got a late but important win on Friday night.

This of course leads us nicely into our next fixture, which is the trip over the road for the second Dundee derby of the season. For those who need reminding, United won the first one by six goals to two. That's 6-2 in laymans terms. I'm not expecting yet another 6-2 on Friday, but you never know with this fixture. If I'm honest, if you offered me a draw I'd take it but I feel the main thing is to avoid defeat and stop Dundee gaining momentum. Obviously a nice resounding win, like the previous 6-2, would be nice just to put them back in their place.

6-2.

Nice assist from Butcher for the second. Not bad for a defensive midfielder playing at centre-back getting an assist from a through-ball.

He's everything to all men that Butcher. Plus he scored two in that game where Dundee United scored 6 and Dundee scored 2.

As you said, Ivan, a bit of a surprise result that one. Expected a much closer match. Three games, nine points and three clean sheets is a decent run of form to take in to Friday. Be interesting to see how they line up, talk of Connolly coming back in, who knows...

I'm a lowly part-timer these days so no chance of getting a ticket to Dens. The home one, definitely.
