Consequences?

The excuse used for Son’s red card by the PGMOL is that it was a result of his tackle that Gomes disclocated his ankle.

They haven’t even looked at the fact that his studs caught in the turf AFTER the tackle forcing his leg over awkwardly.

This could have happened at any time even when he was running and turning, to blame Son and say it was a consequence of the tackle is trying to cover the a*se of a poor official.
What happens next? Someone makes a tackle legitimately and 5 minutes later the other player collapses in agony, and has to be carried off. Does the referee then go back and send the tackler off

The people who govern football in the main have never played the game, they are making decisions based on little knowledge or experience.

Example: the word intent has now been removed from the laws of the game.
When I refereed, I relied on my ability to recognise “intent" before making a decision that could result in a sending off. Now we are guessing by making “as a consequence" the rule of thumb

As for VARCICAL, it is now turning into referees being outrefereed by non match officials.

In my opinion, VAR should only be used in situations where a goal is scored and the referee should control everything else.

I also would suggest that we learn from other sports like rugby and tennis.

In rugby everyone from the players through to the fans can see and hear what is going on when VAR is being used. In tennis, players have 3 challenges allowed, if we only made VAR come into play on these challenges then it would simplify things for everyone.

Regarding showing VAR replays on the big screens, it would of course mean Anfield and Old Trafford would need to invest and install them

Ironically the ref first pulled out a yellow, then changed his mind after seeing the injury.

If Gomes twists his knee and does his cruciate ligaments making the injury less noticeable but still horrific then Son gets a yellow card all day long.

Gomes would still be out for a considerable length of time but nobody would be saying Son should have got a red card.

The incident was a freak and the refereeing was a joke.

This is always the case, when someone commits a foul and the player suffers a serious injury then the punishment is adapted to the injury

You.dont like it but it's always the case

Farcical decision to send him off, and their explanation of why was even more of a farce.

Every man and his dog is saying Son deserves to have his red card rescinded, which means it won`t be.

Just watching the Women’s hockey match between Ireland and Canada.

Their VAR similar to rugby, you can hear referee and also the VAR team, they also between 30 seconds to a minute to turn it around.

Football needs to streamline its responses and make decisions in a more timely manner.
