L’pool two games in 24 hrs

Could never understand why we withdrew from the FA cup in 2000 when we went to Brazil for the world club comp. Can’t remember who we drew in the 3rd rd or even if we were in the bag but I’m sure we could have played a second string team and got through

The club world cup game that clashes with the league cup will probably be against some Mexican /Peruvian / Australian club. Surely they can see them off with a half decent team and some kids on the bench?

Presumably they ne their squad in advance, like every other competition.

Surely there was an alternative mid week where Liverpool and Villa were both free.

I’m far from a Liverpool fan but it’s unfair.

There was talk of it being played on the semi final midweek. But obviously that couldn't be agreed, for reasons we don't know

The FA forced the club to resign from the competition.

They didnt

Yes they did it was well known at the time

No. They encouraged the club to, as they thought Uniteds involvement In the club world cup would benefit their world cup bid. Then, when the media ripped onto United for disrespecting the FA Cup, the FA said nothing.

I think a fair assessment of the situation at the time, we have always been the cash cow for the FA and Premier league for world audiences if income was split due to audience per game world the premier league would look a very different place now as funds are divided inordinately to the minor clubs

The FA have always looked out for itself. The leagues in England are very backwards in this as other nations make sure their teams have the best chance whe they they have continental clashes.

Yeah I think they have adjusted fixtures for other teams like Chelsea in the past so why not this time?

I hope we take the full first team to the CWC and play whoever is left behind against Villa.

If they want to take action against Liverpool for fielding a weakened team in the league cup (which would be even more unfair) then so be it. The worst they can do is hut us with a fine which if we're being honest will be peanuts.
