CL v PL

Well what a contrast there is between out recent form in both competitions.

Putting aside the freak result against Bayern, (and even then we played very well up to half time) our form has been excellent in the CL. Win against Olympiacos and we are through to the knockout stages again, this year more comfortably than last.

However, our league form has been woeful and stuttery.

It could be down to a variety of things, clubs know we have struggled in the past to break down defences who play with everyone behind the ball.
We can dominate games and yet lose to a breakaway goal or a mistake in defence.

We can look at the situation with Eriksen, Toby and also Jan, who all could possibly go either in January or next summer.

Eriksen is an easy one, get rid of him in January as it is obvious he wants out.
Jan, I think is coming to the end of a fine career at Spurs. He has been brilliant most of the time, but I think injuries and age are catching up fast.

Toby, has possibly BEEN one of the best CB’s playing in the PL over the past 10 years, he has consistently shown what a strong and solid defender he is.
However, I think he is one on the reasons our play slows down to a crawl. If you look at our stats, Toby is normally the player with the most touches in a game. Most of these touches are 3-4 yard passes back and forth in our half, he seems to be uncertain whether to play it forward or not. Of course it could be other players are not creating movement or space to pass into, this could be a confidence issue all round.

Last night we moved the ball with more purpose and 80% of the time forward, even Sanchez burst forward more often, and looked more assured than recently.

Lo Celso looked very confident and his movement and control were very good. Very good full debut goal too

N’Dombele was almost imperious at times and showed us why we paid big money for him.

Even Dele looks a bit like the old “Dele", linking up play and creating chances.

Great to see Son play and whilst initially off the pace, he soon got into his stride and tucked his goals away in his usual style.

Dier was solid in the back line and also looked a bit leaner

Although it was a short cameo, saw enough of Sessegnon, to see that he is going to be popular with us Spurs fans. He has ability, confidence and pace.

Harry, whilst not scoring led the team brilliantly and his link up play was excellent. His movement also created space for others.

Gazzaniga is growing in both confidence and stature, so much so that if he maintains his progress I think Lloris will have difficulty reclaiming his place.

Overall, if we can carry our form and ensure that the core of last nights team play on Saturday, then I think our form in the PL should change dramatically

Whenever Dele had the ball and we were attacking my optimism would just literally just fall away. Whenever he is pressed or crowded and has to do sometime instinctive or quickly he tends to give the ball away. Am sorry its just plain frustrating..

The guy could have terrible games till he retires but seems our supporters will continue to make excuses for him. wtf!

Dele was absolutely fine. He wasn’t any worse than Kane or Son first half and actually played a couple key passes.

Seems like some will get on his back for no reason

rose tinted dele glass are back?

Not for this game. He was absolutely fine and has been the last few bar Liverpool.

I do tend to agree. As I've said before, I think many supporters don't want to accept that a player might not be as good as they first thought.

Key passes Vs Red Star:

Dele 3
Ndombele 2
Lo Celso 2

Like I put the criticism of dele the last year has been warranted but last night wasn’t one.

2 goals and 1 assist in his last 5 starts shows once he plays further up the pitch like in the early seasons he’s productive.

He's definitely been better this season than last.

Dele will be fine, especially with GLC & N’Dombele in the team.
