Perez Praet Gray

Perez had another struggle on Saturday, and with our substitutes coming on and making an impact on multiple occasions now, is it time for Gray or Praet to get their chance in the wide right position?

I think we can all agree we don’t want a formation change, so it would have to be a straight swap

Personally, I’d like to see Praet tried there as he’s a very neat footballer that can link play and play the quick triangle passes needed in that role. He also provides much more cover for Ricardo helping him leverage his attacking play more (how good was that on Saturday!)

But you could argue Gray has done enough to warrant a place in the first team. Let’s see if he can take his chance this time because there’s no denying he’s made us a better team the last two times he’s come off the bench - credit to him for that.

Or should we stick with Perez and give him more time to recreate the 10 good minutes he had against Liverpool?

What would you do?

Ps. Missing Nev loving VAR today!

I honestly don't think you change it yet.

Gray is having a massive impact from the bench, why lose that option?

Not sure about Praet wide, but again what an option to have to pretty much replace anyone in the middle that's tiring/taken a knock/needs resting.

STICK for me

I agree with Cheesy. I think you pick the same team for now and see how it goes. Praet is a great option from the bench and I have a feeling he will start a few games before the season is out.

Gray remains an enigma. He’s been great coming on as a sub recently and hopefully that’s increased his confidence, but I’m not sure I’d trust him to start just yet. Good cameos is not a new thing for Demarai.

The other thing about Gray is I wonder how happy he is? He seemed to almost have an expectation to get picked in 2016/17 and displace two PL winning wide players - constantly tweeting his displeasure. Not a peep from him recently so I hope he’s knuckling down to show BR what he can do.

Barnes and Perez are probably the biggest question marks in our side at the moment, but Gray, Praet, Albrighton and others need to work to show why they’d be better.

I actually also thought the OP may have mentioned Perez’s hat trick against Southampton and a decent performance against Palace to build on the 10 minutes against Liverpool. He has shown glimpses as has Barnes.

Happy as we are, Gray and stay a super sub and I think Perez has improved enough and done enough to continue being selected for now.

I don't see any reason to change a winning side, certainly not to accommodate Praet playing out of position. Gray does look promising though, certainly pushing either of the wide men for a chance at starting.

Don't.
Play.
Players.
Out.
Of.
Position.

Particularly when you're doing well.

I get why people would want to see Praet in the starting line-up, and he more than anyone is unlucky that he's not getting starts for us right now because his contribution has been consistently very good. But he's a central midfielder. That's his strength, that's where his skill set lies. To play him means not playing one of Ndidi, Tielemans or Maddison - or playing Maddison left wing which is causing the same issue.

It's true that our wings are probably the weakest area of the pitch for us right now, but we have the right sort of players there, players who can improve and the balance is right. The difficult question is about Gray and Perez. Perez has been alright but isn't setting the world alight, while Gray has put in some very good performances recently. But we are winning. I think that's the toughest decision Rodgers has to make right now. I'd probably keep it the same for the next match, away at Brighton. But after that three of the next four are home matches against teams in the bottom half of the table and a great chance for Gray to come in and build up a head of steam if that's what Rodgers wants to do.

But in general I agree with the points made. I didn’t mention Perez’s hat trick because my argument is that he is the one with the spotlight on him who might not be doing enough. But I take the argument to give him time in a winning team.

As for Praet, he is a very versatile player who I think could do an interesting role linking play in this formation. Better than Perez is currently doing. You could argue we’re playing Perez out of position. We’re not, we’re just asking him to play a slightly different role.

Pereira wouldn’t be one of our best players if managers had only ever played him as a winger.

So I agree with your sentiment of players in the right position. Ndidi, Vardy, Maddison and Tielemans (and probs Kasper) are good examples. I just argue we don’t yet know what Praets best position is and he’s shown the ability to play multiple roles.

Nope I like Perez, we need to give him more time rather than chop and change every few games and don't allow players to settle.
