Which was stupid considering what he had achieved in the game, what potential he was showing and what he has then went on to achieve.

Those prices quoted dont surprise me given the current market. Lot of money for 2 young players but if they fulfill their potential then we have 2 potential world class players on our hands. And fees are only going one way.

What he then went on to achieve is hindsight speaking. He did lose several finals before he won the CL.

Anyway, on May 31, 1978, St Mirren sacked their manager, Alex Ferguson, with an industrial tribunal ruling he had: "neither by experience nor talent, any managerial ability at all."

Reaching finals is an achievement no matter what people say. Not many clubs and managers reach a CL final.

Roberto DiMatteo won a CL as a manager

Teams can and do get lucky

The real bar is for a manager to win it twice

So far all Koop has achieved is less than Rafa Benitez achieved

Less trophies and same league position all while spending a significant multiplier more

You cannot with a straight face say that Klopp and Woodward have the same patterns when it comes to spending on players. Woodward mainly buys duds, when Klopp buys gems. And to compare the progress of Liverpool under Klopp and United (lack of) under Woodward should tell you which side has it right.
