But

Will get hammered in Euro 2020

It’s all well and good playing crap players when you’re up against Eastern European farmers and postmen in the qualifiers. Come the real deal and I think Gareth and England get found out

Maguire - laughing stock around europe
Mings- championship player
Rice - over rated
Rashford - inconsistent

Shout out to

TAA - always a threat and great delivery
Ox - MOTM midweek and drives the team forward
Pope - clean sheet and looked assured

My team going forward

———————Pope———————

TAA——Gomez——Smalling—Chilwell

——————Henderson——————
————OX——————Mount———

—Sterling———Kane————CHO—

The issue with Gomez is that he’s played so little football over the past season or two that it’s hard to judge properly.

Certainly looks to have huge potential though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He played 20 odd games at the start of last year and was immense alongside VvD before his injury. Certainly first choice ahead of Matip and Lovren. He's got everything you'd want from a modern CB bar sometimes losing his positioning from crosses. That said, he seems to have lost his sharpness this season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Started something like 12 leagues last season, didn’t he?

Think it’s too few games to be talking about him in that way - huge potential but surely a way to go before we start talking about him as a nailed on starter for Liverpool or England.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not for England. I think that without that injury though you're talking about 50 odd games across the season. Of course nobody can guarantee his form would have remained as consistent as it was at the start but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't have. I also think he was pencilled in for the RCB slot in the 3 CBs at the world cup ahead of Walker.

Gomez really wasn't much worse than VVD before he got injured, which says a lot

Been a bit of a mess this season though

Of course that may well have been the case.

But it wasn’t, and as it is we have a young player who simply hasn’t had a run of games at any point, in terms of his top level career.

Would be good for England if he doesn’t fulfil jay promise though.

Been awful this season. Physically he's there, mentally he just hasn't been there.

if he does fulfil that promise*

Problem is all our CBs, no matter how interesting they are as prospects, are all big question marks

Gonna need 2 to step up and form a partnership over the next few years

And if he stays fit I think he will. Especially as Matip, who had been great this season also has injury issues. Let's be honest though, anyone who plays alongside VvD is gonna be in a good place to develop.

belgium and france are the best national teams in europe at the moment

italy are resurgent , and could do v well

other heavyweight nations such as spain, germany, and NL i dont think are better than england going into the tournament

Portugal are probs better than 4 years ago when they won it

my favs in this order:
france
belgium
portugal
england
italy

good thing for england is that it will be a virtual home tournament for them

if they keep winning, i think only the 1/4 final will be payed away from wembley

spain will be playing their group games in bilbao btw

i think spain haven't played in bilbao since the 70s when Franco was still around

If England get the key games at Wembley then they are the favourites.
