How do you rate a top Manager?

Apologies, its a bit of a long read.

I know we have our personal preferences,Recently Just like the Messi and Ronaldo debate we have seen the Pep vs Klopp debate descend into a fan boy contest.I honestly cant understand why some fans cant appreciate both for their different but excellent qualities. Its quite obvious Pep is a genius coach, the best of his generation and Klopp is a genius man manager. But I recently saw a comment on these boards where a fan said Klopp is a Far superior manager to Pep and you just shake your head at some of the nonsense people spout here.

Honestly how can a manager 4 years Klopps Juniour who has been in management for 12 years and has won 1 title with Barca B, 14 trophies with Barca, 7 trophies with Bayern & 7 trophies with Man City be FAR inferior to a manager that has 18 years experience and won 5 trophies at Dortmund and 2 trophies at Liverpool?

Cant we just compare Apples with Apples and appreciate both managers for the geniuses that they are?

Anyway this is not the reason why I have put up this article, it just peeves me of when some people add unresearched stuff and make fan boy conclusions.

The question here, particularly to Arsenal and Man united fans is how do you rate a top manager for your club? I have obviously given the pre-amble of Pep and Klopp as they are currently the best in the business but given the situation both clubs find themselves in, to regain our status it would be interesting to hear how fans rate a Top manager.

For example, I still think and I have argued this before that even at the time Wenger left the club, he was still a good manager, same with Fergie.
When we sold Sanchez to United, I remember telling a few mates that only under a manager like Wenger or Sampaoli (Former Chile Manager) given the highline they both employed, would Alexis Sanchez many deficiencies as a footballer not be exposed particularly his ridiculous turn over rate in possession. It is important to note that at some point Sanchez was regarded as the best player in the Premier League and that was down to Wenger.

We are already seeing that even in his final years Wenger was a far superior manager to Emery so it is important to know what we are looking as we decide on the next manager for Arsenal.

I am not excited at the prospect of appointing Nuno Espírito Santo. Excellent manager, excellent guy but he is the type of manager that Fergie would appoint as his right hand man as he is not built to manage a top club that has attacking traditions and fans that like to be excited by the football. Nuno is like Emery, Pellegrini, Rodgers all mid table managers who would struggle at Top clubs where there is pressure and you are required to TAKE MORE RISKS.

In my opinion It is easier to manage a mid table team with a decent fan base, budget and modest aspirations where you can set up to play on the counter than the responsibility set on top managers where you buy a top player and you are expected to win possibly every game.

Mourinho once moaned about the expectations on managers like Wenger, where they could go along with absolutely zero pressure whilst his every move and decision was broken up by the media. We have seen the same thing on managers like Poch and Klopp aswell. The pressure on them only really kicked in in their 3rd or 4th season if you can even call it pressure.

Managers like Jose or Pep are under pressure from day one in the job. Having said all this what sort of managers do the 2 fan bases want? For me personally I would like a manager that can:

1. Develop our young players, the youth setup and bring in good young players
2. Improve the work ethic, push the board to be more ambitious and rally the fan base
3. Be flexible but mostly play attacking footie and must be able to attract the best players in world football
4. A modern coach who is popular with the players and can make them run through brick walls for him

Based on that brief I cant see any manager out there that we can get other than maybe Poch and Erik Ten Hag.

Its a pity Henry just started with Montreal, I would have preferred we appoint him for the remainder of the season and properly appoint a new manager in the summer. He is very popular with footballers around the world and cant do any worse than Emery. At the moment gun to head, I would rather have Arteta, also extremely popular with players and easily fits the profile of a modern manager.

Who would you rather have at your club?

A Top Manager?

To me, a top Manager would be someone with a record of building and rebuilding complete sides.

A decent 17-18 man roster, a healthy spread of player ages, a good core of leaders on the pitch, a practical balance between flashy players and grafters.... etc. Doesn't really matter to me whether they achieve this organically or via chequebook.

Most importantly, he would also need a proper backbone in order to stand up to our two-bob Board and call them out on their nonsense.

There's no point splashing out on the Messi's of this world, only to fill the side out with kids, dodgy loanees, and over-the-hill defensive rejects from our rival clubs.

That's more or less been our past decade or so in a nutshell. .....
