So it's simple...3 goals for win

Jose just needs to set our squad a target of 3 goals a game. He shouldn't dare play defensive until we have 3 goals scored.

It's interesting because Jose's style is bus parking and defence first at all costs which has made him very successful however, Tottenham's DNA is totally the opposite and could not park the bus if it saved their lives

Interesting times ahead.

Sounds like a return to the Ardiles days of '94; You score four, we'll score five (hopefully).

The 1-1-9 of Ossies was great.

I’ve always wanted to see what Jose would do with us, still pinching myself tbh.
We are the antithesis of the defensive pragmatic team and always have been. I don’t recall many occasions in my 35 years a fan of us battening down the hatches in a game ala Arsenal in the 80s/90s. Just not us is it, and I can almost guarantee it would go tiiits up if we ever try. I say almost because if any manager can get us to do it successfully, it’s Jose

There is absolutely no way Spurs can just drop into defensive mode, not even if they had the four best defenders in the world. It is just not in their DNA.

They need to just manage to defend properly though. Both goals conceded Saturday, where wholly avoidable even with a pub defence.

Wonder if Levy knows this

Anyone looking at the last three fixtures as a sign of the way Jose wants us to play is dreaming. Our fluidity and crisp passing up top and our goalscoring form are a consequence of Poch's coaching. The problem is that if Jose wants to shore things up, he's going to have to sacrifice someone further up the field and he will. Slow but sure that vibrancy going forward will fade as normal Jose service resumes. I'd start expecting 1-0 victories with 40% possession fairly soon. He won't change. He's had too much success with it.

It may work perfectly. It feels similar to when Wenger turned up at Arsenal. He inherited an unbelievably solid defensive outfit from the George Graham era, so he only needed to add flair and strength in midfield and up top. As the old guard began to fade though, his defensive frailties showed. We've got the same thing but the other way around. Brilliant up top but suspect at the back. If he can shore that up, we might get a trophy or two before we stop scoring and become boring.

I think Jose will be looking to prove a lot of people wrong.

Wrong that he's washed up has-been.

Wrong that he's a negative defensive manager

Wrong that he doesnt develop younger players

Wrong that he falls out with everyone and leaves the club & relationships in a mess.

While he is never going to be the next Pep or Klopp in terms of style i think that we can be the Chelsea of the past, who actually were based on very sound defence but also scored for fun.

I remember watching them at Spurs in 2005 i think. They were the better team, going for the title, and we had Mido sent off after less than half an hour. They took the lead soon after and then just took the sting out of the game for the next 40 minutes until we started to take a few risks and they picked us off on a counter attack. I remember coming away thinking how negative but on further reflection, it was the perfect management of a big away game vs local rivals when they were going for the title. This is how Jose has tended to approach most big games.

I think we can feel confident that we have the attacking quality in Kane, Son, Alli, Lucas so that our game will never be boring, but sometimes will have to accept that winning is more important than style...not all the time of course, but we have to adapt so we manage games better. Some games or moments in them will demand a more negative approach. If we had been boring for the last 20 minutes vs WHU/B'mouth then it would have 3 nil or more and we would have all been cockahoop.

So overall, blending our attacking style with game intelligence is what i want from Jose and he's a clever chap, he'll realise this too.

For a fleeting moment it was a thing of beauty. And then it was sussed-out quite ruthlessly.
