Big League euro fitba is corrupt from top to bottom & left to right.

I despise it.

Eurovision Song Contest is utter shyyte but more principled.

For every beard manicured suit you see there are 30 behind the scene

major players. TV co reps, sponsors, more sponsors, local & national

politicians, agents, agents' agents, cops, fvk knows who. Cousins of the

guys who decide on EUFA & FIFA host nations after 11 course meals.

Gimme Hamilton v Rossco on a pissshing wet February day.

Thing is, when you know how much corruption there is in the game, aided and abetted by FIFA, UEFA and the rest, you cannot rule out nods, winks and side room deals from Gillette, PES, Adidas, Pepsi or whoever.

Not sure Virgil has that profile or financial power behind him?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If that's how it worked, Modric would have got nowhere near all the ridiculous awards he won last year.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not saying it was what happened but these sponsors pay big money and maybe don't want to see 'their man' dissed two years in a row?

Last year was a WC year and Croatia did better than Potugal or Argentina along with Modric playing well in the secksy league.

Was Messi a clear winner this year - don't think so? Did he already have 5 wins? Was it a while since a defender won it? Has VVD done anything to sully the game, no? Does he win games for his club, yes. Regularly, not so obviously. Scunnered that they revert to the bigger name and if it was close not just let someone else win it. Might be the big man's only chance. Just another trophy on LM's fireplace.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
is the winner not decided by the managers and captains from the national teams?

Think that's the FIFA one?

Balon - The 30-man list of nominees is compiled by the editorial staff of the French magazine, with the winner voted for by journalists from around the world, with one representative per nation.

Silver ... Any journo who voted Mahrez into that top 10 should never be allowed to write another word on football. The guy barely kicked a baw for City in the last 12 months.

Same with Lloris making the top 30 list at all. Clearly the voting has very little to do with DOMESTIC performances ... just CL and Internationals.

Look at it this way, Dave. Imagine who the Scottish journo might be and wtf they know about our local game far less someone they barely see?

Multiply that by 200.

I think the Mahrez vote was because of his imo t at the AFCON to be fair.

Mahrez may have got the African bloc vote? Not sure they look on Salah as real African?

Aye, presumably ... Mahrez was certainly "fresh" for that, having sat on his erchie for most of the season at City.
