A pity he decided to go on loan

Man Utd are 1st for lowest expected goals against stat. Maguire has been really poor this season and Smalling should have stayed but the fact is defensively we allowed the fewest total quality chances against us this season.

Also Herrera decided and arranged to leave when Mourinho was manager and it was nothing to do with Solskjaer.

I don't like making these comparisons when players leave a club and suddenly start looking the part. Smalling always had his good traits but also bad traits. I haven't seen him play in Italy but by all accounts is tearing it up there, perhaps he just needed a fresh start and there's no guarantee he'd be performing at the same level here. Which he wasn't doing before.

In any case, he's on loan. I'm positive he'd jump at the chance to play himself back into contention at united. If not, we'll move on.

I have always said Smalling is your best defender.

Smalling lost his place in England due to not being good with the ball. Oddly enough, he's the best suited to partnering Maguire or Lindelof. Neither seem a good fit for each other.

I remember myself and VC saying Smalling best defender we have last season, some idiots here were tellingme Lindelof is the future. I'll honestly ship Jones and Lindelof in the summer, bring back Mike and get another CB in.

I'd say we need rid of Jones and Rojo before than and then Bailly if he keeps getting injured.

True.

I have always been a big fan of smalling

unfortunately some of our fan base and media only seem interested in focusing on his negatives.

Yes he is not the best on the ball and he makes me nervous in possesion but he has probbably made less errors leading to goals than the current crop of cbs we have.

smalling had enough chances close to 10years worth, only issue for me is there are cbs at the club, jones, rojo, lindelof who are worse that were not shipped out 1st, just shows how weak we are in that area as a whole
