Players tell board not to give up on Ole

There is an article in The Times from yesterday reporting that several of our senior players spoke to the club's hierarchy before the spurs match and told them they they belive in Ole and not to sack him.

The Times are usually pretty honest so there is a good chance that this is true. I hope so. If Ole is to turn it around then he needs the players to keep putting in a shift. The way the team approached the game and the motivation that they showed suggests the story could be true.

With McT back and Pogba nearing return, if we can make another decent signing in midfield in January, I'd expect an upturn in results the 2nd half of the season. Can might be a good signing, even if it is just a loan until the summer.

I'm not sure results will dramatically improve. And for once, this isn't an anti-Ole rant. Just that we play most of th better teams (and Arsenal) away from home in the second half of the season, and our fixtures are harder as a result imo. I'd hope that if we can keep players fit, we might start beating some of the weaker teams with more regularity though

Yeah I agree, for the fee he's been good, but although it's about balance, he wasn't really what we needed, epsecially considering how much football he's been forced to play. I think we've been starved for so long for a player who can just run at defenders and whip in a cross that we've forgot that we could still do a lot better.

He's the sort of signing you bring in while the squad is healthy with little risk because of his price and he can be eased in while also learning from more experienced players. Because our squad clearly isn't like that I feel he isn't really necessary at the moment and the pressures on him could harm his development.

Like I said after the Brighton game, it's wait and see. Performances and results like that against Spurs are often the exception rather than the rule because you can pretty much guarantee we'll follow it up with something like we seen against Sheffield United and a bunch of mediocre displays like against Villa.

With this squad, inconsistency is to be expected in terms of performances and results but I don't think it's asking too much for us to be able to play like we did against Spurs and Brighton with a little more regularity because along with Ole's use of the younger players, it will offer more encouragement than anything else for me.

Yes, it's a massive rebuilt that would be too hard to fix for the vast majority of managers

-----

Given the time frame some our fans want it done in, no manager would be capable of it

And that’s ignoring the lack of control that Ole has, and the rank incompetence above him.

Or perhaps being thrown in at the deep end so soon could be the making of him. I don't think there's been anything from him to suggest he's finding playing for us as overwhelming. I think he's dealt with the pressure quite well all things considered.

Hope this is a load of b*llocks.

The tail shouldn't be wagging the dog. Shouldn't be up to the players to give their approval to the board.

Wouldn't entirely surprise me though. Woodward et al putting the value of the players above that of the manager.

Certainly nothing there to be using as a stick to hit ole with

I find Ole a little boring and a bit of a yes man tbh. Doesn’t come across overwhelmed like Moyes did but he doesn’t really say much that fills me with confidence either, it’s all a bit by the book which I find is the same with is tactics. I think the players respect him but not seen anything to think he has the character needed for players to want to play for him and give 100%.

Ole will do for me over that trophy dodging Argentinian

I think he's a don't rock the boat man, at least in public. I feel it maybe different behind the scenes. I believe many underestimate his intelligence, reading about his time in Molde it comes across that he's a bright guy.
Boring in interviews,? Well I can live with that.
