January transfer window

We need to do some business....

1) We definitely need to shift Grezda, and maybe Murphy/Halliday?

2) We need a natural right winger...Ojo not good or consistent enough

3) We'll need to replace Kamara if he goes as Arfield is no longer good
enough for an automatic start

4) - the most difficult issue of all - what's to be done about Goldson and Tavernier?!

Good start?

Agreed, although I'd be surprised and delighted if Gerrard still with us in 2024. It will mean however we can squeeze a few more £££ in compensation from Liverpool when he replaces Klopp

He won’t.

I think he’s got a long way to go before he gets a sniff at Liverpool. After Wednesday his tactics and ability to change games are seriously in question.

The next week will say a lot about his managerial abilities.

I think Tav being captain illustrates where we are at the mo. He’s not captain material IMO and makes too many mistakes. Goldson is the same and turning into a real bombscare. Helander is as slow as a week in the jail. So far Barisic is the only one with pass marks.

Ojo isn’t good enough by a long way. Aribo just doesn’t look like he wants to be there. Flanagan, Halliday, King, Polster and others are dead wood so there’s a lot of work to be done.

Agree with one and two. But don’t see signings unless anyone leaves.

Arfield was brilliant last year, had bad form but no surprise given games played. We’ll see real Arfield back after winter break.

Goldson is our best Cb and organises the defence. Nothing will be done there. Even the best cbs make mistakes.

Tav has been poorer this season, needs competition. Don’t see anything happening there in Jan. Patterson looks a real talent for the youths.

The idea of us making big changes and rocking the boat half way through the season, replacing senior players in the squad, when we’ve dropped a few points all season is mental to be honest.

For me, the main things we should be looking at is getting the wage bill down (send King back to Leicester, offload some of the others who never play if we can), and bring in a RB so we can rotate Tavernier out for a few games when needed - Polster clearly isn't getting a look in there.

I definitely don’t see any wholesale changes to the squad but there’s a lot of room for improvement

Is there?

We’re top of Europa league group when we were fourth seeds. Ahead of/beaten the leaders of the Danish and Swiss league, Porto and Feyenoord.

We’re in league cup final. And two points off Celtic.

We’ve made huge improvements to get where we are. Celtic had a squad that was being paid twice as much as ours, and spent 11m in summer, we spent 10 and a half. The idea we’ve spent a lot of money and so should be where we are or better is nonsense. Celtic are still rightly favourites.

The team are doing brilliantly, and the manager has done brilliantly to build a squad spending what Celtic can almost afford to spend on their striker. There’s room for improvement but needs to be some realism at how well they’re doing.

I agree that from a bigger picture point of view we have done terrifically well under SG.

Folk have very short memories of the thrashings we regularly took off of Celtic two seasons ago have been forgotten.

Tomorrow will tell us a lot about the mentality of the team.

The whole team got spooked for a 20 minute spell on Wednesday night. We were so far in front of Aberdeen that their goal came as a massive shock and we didn’t handle it well.

I agree Tavs hasn’t lived up to expectations as captain and needs genuine competition. Broom is a massive baller but what a job he does as captain for them.

Goldson and Helander are our best pairing at the back but neither is perfect. But then at around £3m each you are hardly going to get perfection.

The squad is in decent shape but guys like Murphy
, Docherty, King and Grezda are all contributing zero at the moment.
