GMFC 1 DUFC 2

United opened up a 10 point lead at the top of the Championship after our seventh win in a row and an important three points as we continue our fight for the title.

Conditions obviously weren't fantastic last night so credit to the 440 United fans who made the midweek trek across to the west for this rearranged game so close to Christmas. It was always going to be a tricky test as, despite Morton's poor league position, they've got the second best home record in the league (behind United), getting 16 points at Cappielow.

United took an early lead through Louis Appere at a set piece, it being his second goal in two games. I've been keen to see Louis start scoring as I think he does have something to offer us in terms of physicality and workrate, but he needed to add goals to his game. Hopefully he can continue in fine form.

Morton levelled not too long after, but United restored their lead through that man Shankland, back in the team after injury. That's 20 goals now which is a terrific return and he's more than paid back whatever it is that we pay him. He's been such an important acquisition and you have to feel confident every time he's in the starting lineup that we'll win and he'll score.

Morton pressed for an equaliser in the second period but we held on and came away with the three points.

Elsewhere last night, Ayr and Arbroath played out a 1-1 draw to continue Ayr's fairly poor form and this played out very well for us. Not only did it keep Ayr down the table but it also helped propel Arbroath into the top half of the table at the expense of our friends across the road, and it now relegates Dundee to be the fourth best side on Tayside by league position. Last nights result for United also leaves our supposed rivals for the title an insurmountable 17 points behind United.

Pleasing. Very pleasing.

We of course travel to Gayfield on Saturday and hopefully conditions improve or it'll be another battle against a good Arbroath side. I expect a tough contest but hopefully we'll pull through and get another vital win.

Think we're just tucked in behind Liverpool mate, but it would be a good game.

Good to see, Ivan. Would be great to have Utd back in the top flight ... hopefully at the expense of Hamilton and their fooking abortion of a plastic pitch.
