De Gea... Is he finished at United?

At 29 De Gea should be entering his prime as a goalie, with >10 years of experience supplementing his exceptional abilities. But for the last year and a half the lads been on a sharp decline (ever since that Ronaldo moment at the World cup... some might say before then).

He's always had his deficiencies as a goalie. Weak coming for crosses, terrible with his feet and slow distribution, but has more than made up for it by being truly exceptional in other areas. But as those other areas seem to be eroding is there any point sticking with him?

He looks like a lost puppy in almost every game I see him. His self belief seems totally drained. I don't know the cause but I think the lad needs a hard reset. It might be best for him (and us) to get a fresh start; a new challenge.

I know this is coming after two bad moments in back to back games but it's hardly knee jerk; we've all being saying or thinking it for quite a while.

Henderson seems to be taking to life in the PL well enough. Never know how he'll deal with the pressure of OT (a la Foster) but I think we should be looking at installing him as No 1 next season and letting David move on...

Alas all good things must come to an end

Terrible with his feet?

I seem to remember De Gea making a lot of fantastic saves with his feet, and him getting the plaudits for it. Or do you mean kicking?

He's certainly regressed, either that or the management at United is messing with him like it has everything else.

Football board is the first port of call.

Sure it is

It is, commented on a Chelsea article as well. Let’s see if some mef who doesn’t want to talk about the subject of the article on there like you are here!

Yeah I always use the Football board.

As for De Gea, people can no longer claim he's the best in the world.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He never was, best shot stopper? Probably. But theres always been better keepers overall around.

At his best he's a fantastic keeper but I think his confidence, like some others in the team, is quite fragile at the moment.

I'm by no means giving up on him but if I were Ole, and it's a big call to make, I'd give Romero a run in the team for a while. Romero isn't nearly as good as DDG but I remember SAF saying once that he picked Les Sealey not because he was better than Leighton but because Sealey thought he was better.

Give DDG a rest and perhaps send him on holiday for a week or so could give him the recharge he needs. As people have mentioned he's saved us numerous times over the last few years so I think he deserves a chance to make up for his recent errors.

De Gea is limited.....perfect keeper for a defensive side that don't require the keeper to play out. Proper management and motivation would see him back to his best....

No he's not, He's 29, He's not even in his prime for a keeper yet, Some of our fans are too quick to write him off, And he'll prove them wrong again, Like he did in 2012.

I'm not sure the modern game suits him tbh.

If you were to list the top keepers at CL clubs most are better with their feet than De Gea and have a greater command of their box.

Since the start of 2018 no player has had more errors leading to goals and that's not exactly a small period of time.

If you want to hear from this site has been the place - ours and theirs. DDG has never been given a few days off to watch another keeper - just what he needs to sort himself. He's still quality and nowhere near finished. Why don't you khuntz get a life.

He's not mentally right atm. His strength is shot stopping. His weakness is commanding the box, crosses, saving penalties, playing the ball out.

His shot stopping has served us well. But maybe it's time we looked at an all-round keeper.
