in my opinion.
while results and performances havent always gone to plan, im more than prepared to look at the bigger picture.
we are currently sat in 5th, despite having a midfield of Matic, pereira, mctominay( who has impressed me greatly) and fred as our only options all season.
injuries to martial has left us short up front, (taking Greenwood out of the equation for the minute) with the only other options being mata and lingard out wide.
the players he has signed have come in, and while not setting the world on fire straight away have all looked decent signings.
the likes of Lukaku and sanchez have been shipped out in one way or another, with the likes of young and matic looking likely to go at the end of the season too, along with lingard who could well be moved on too.
decent results and performances againt the likes of city, liverpool, chelsea and spurs have shown that on any day we can hang with the big boys, the main issue being our lack of creativity against teams that sit back... which again, given the links with maddison is something he is looking to address.
the emergence of Greenwood and Williams have given us 2 players from the youth set up that are clearly good enough to make the step up.
Im more than happy for Ole to be given another 12 months to see exactly which direction he is trying to take the club.
before the start of the season this place was full of people claiming we werent good enough to compete.. yet they still expect us to
im defo an Ole in guy.. for the time being... because lets be honest, Rome wasnt built in a day... and the rebuild needed at this club is probably greater than the job the romans had... because they didnt have Ed in charge.
ole is doing a decent job

Now we have a manager who is floating by on good faith from his playing days but the football is as dire as it has been from the last 3 guys.
----------
Its not just on good faith for me personally
I admittedly love the guy, he's been involved in some of the best moments of my following united life
I'll never turn on him to the extent of chucking abuse etc... Like some of you
There is a bigger picture... Bigger problems... Ones that are going to be a handicap for whoever is manager... As evidenced by 2 previous World class managers failing badly
Even if poch was boss... And things didn't improve straight away etc... The quality in the squad wouldn't be his doing... The ineptitude of the board isn't his fault
Ole's at the stage now when he has to address the midfield and things have to change or it does increasingly be on his shoulders.... But he's got the right to have the chance to address it imo
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I haven’t turned on him as a person or a playing legend. Even if we lost 12-0 tonight and he was sacked I would still consider him an all time legend.
As a manager I think he’s a bum and just not good enough for lower sides let alone us but I literally have nothing against him as a person at all. He seems like a nice guy and took the job we all would if we could. But like you or me, he just isn’t good enough

I fully admit I (wrongly) wanted Maguire this summer but I also wanted a midfielder - remember by Tielemans and Eriksen campaigns?
and I absolutely wouldn’t have wanted Maguire if it took any money away from the midfield funds
Turns out it was a ‘lack of value’ rather than what we spent on Maguire
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Balls... Maguire at whatever price.... You were in campaign mode and wouldn't accept any other view.
We can keep mentioning tielemens but nobody knows if he was interested at all in anything but Leicester... We just don't know
If eriksen wasn't that interested then why bother... We had this with sanchez... And you campaigned for that too
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How was it the same with Sanchez? He didn’t work out because he wasn’t good enough rather than him having his head somewhere else
We’re not a huge draw so I’d imagine the vast majority of footballers wouldn’t see us as first choice. We should have gone for Eriksen and sold him the dream - would he rather he rotting at Spurs?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Its the same as sanchez in that he came for the money... And eriksen supposedly wasn't keen so if signed would be the same...
He also looks dire this season...
I'm fairly aware we'll have to chuck cash at some because of our situation... I don't see Eriksen being worth it on the evidence of this season so far... Much like i said about sanchez at the time too

I just think Eriksen like a lot of footballers needs a new challenge. It’s something I’ve noticed in all my years of watching how fine a line is between a motivated players form and a non motivated players form
Doesn’t matter anyway, he’s apparently off to Inter for £20 million. Would still like him at United - especially for that much. But he ain’t english or a United full kit wearing wannnker as is the requirement these days 😂

From reading this thread people who support Ole staying are saying mainly that creativity against ‘lesser’ sides is the main issue... to me that is just one of 3 major issues I have with Ole in the past year. The other two are 1) his inability to change tactically, either before a game to suit the opposition, or in game to counter what the opposition have done if it’s not working; and 2) the lack of intensity and lethargic performances which have been frequent in games we are ‘expected’ to win.
As someone else pointed out, we do not have a squad to win the league but we have a lot better squad that people are admitting. Last week we played arsenal and made some of players look like world beaters, a very similar arsenal side played a championship team last night and for long periods (especially first half) shown up to be just as average as they really are. The difference in us and the team they played last night was organisation, a defined plan and system, and work rate. All things a manager should control.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Very much this. The same people a year or two ago said they’d excuse us not challenging as long as there was good football are now excusing the awful football being played now with no actual signs of improvement.
We have 31 points after 21 games. This time last season we had 38 points. Our rivals Spurs and Arsenal have new managers after poor starts and you’d expect them to kick on.
Our defence has gotten worse even though we’ve spent more than any side in the country on it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wasn't Ole in charge for like 12 of those points?
