I remember few years ago

The prem league were looking to play one game abroad. It was obviously met with fury from the fans in England and at the time uefa and other nation leagues were scathing. UEFA I recall were even trying to say they would put a stop to it if it were to happen.

Well looks like in Spain they are doing exactly that but for their equivalent of the community shield. I do not now hear any outrage from everyone about this. It is so bad that they ever reformatted the cup to try to ensure real and barca definitely are both in it.

So I wonder if this one game abroad will resurface in the prem league again. As they say money talks.

La liga wanted to play a league game in the USA but the Spanish FA stopped them from doing so. It was also unpopular with the fans.

This is for the revamped Charity Shield equivalent. According to the guardian this being played in Saudi is unpopular as well, with Atletico only selling 50 tickets and Valencia 27. Madrid reportedly sold 700 but only 40 of those were to fans based in Spain.

Apparently the new format itself is reasonably popular, with a feeling that the traditional league champion v cup winner approach getting stale. I imagine it was only done to ensure both Barca and Real are in it for the Saudi money.

If there any way of squeezing the last drop of its soul out for cash the greedy premier league will be all over that...

true but in the end when and if they try again we can only give them a kicking.

I'm sorry and no disrespect to the clubs but burnley v crystal palace isn't the game they want.

Same argument for european super league.

Utd v liverpool and its LIVE... from new york, dubai or singapore. thats the reality.

FA are probably still paying for Wembley. No way will they all the drab community Shield to move abroad unless they a considerable chunk out of it.

My understanding is Barca are pushing for it, but the players and SFA dont want it.
Barca v Girona was going to be in Miami last season but it didnt go ahead in the end.

plus its the "community sheild" so money doesn't go to charity it goes to "projects" aka their own expenses and slush funds.

But do not underestimate the power of the dark side.

If they can make 1 million more putting it in dubai they'll do it and spend it on hookers and blow. sorry more hookers and blow.

Just a quick update on this. The final of the super cup will not actually have either the league champion or the cup winner in it. It is just going to be a match between the 2and and 3rd placed team from last season.
