Leeds Utd v Sheff Weds Matchday Thread

So after the excitement of the FA Cup it's back to business in the League and the joys of a Yorkshire Derby
Leeds looking to kick on after their impressive showing away at the Emirates and Sheffield looking to end a dismal run, should be quite a game

Venue...Elland Road...Date...11th Jan ...Kick Off 1500hrs

Team News
Leeds United
Leeds United goalkeeper Kiko Casilla will return after being rested for the FA Cup third-round defeat by Arsenal.

Midfielder Pablo Hernandez (hamstring) is back in contention after missing the past four games as i believe is Jamie Shackleton, Roberts still out.

Sheffield Weds
Wednesday will be without striker Steven Fletcher for up to 10 weeks after he suffered a knee injury in the FA Cup win at Brighton.

They have no other new injury or suspension concerns as they look to end a run of three Championship defeats.

Match facts
Leeds are unbeaten in three league games against Sheffield Wednesday (W1 D2) since losing 2-1 at Elland Road in March 2018.
Sheffield Wednesday are without a clean sheet in their last 12 away league visits to Leeds since winning 2-0 in the Premier League in August 1996.
Leeds United have lost just one of their last 15 matches in the Championship (W9 D5 L1), although they have won only once in their last five (W1 D3 L1).
Sheffield Wednesday have lost three consecutive league games - they last lost four in a row in November 2018.
Leeds' Patrick Bamford has been directly involved in 12 league goals this season (10 goals, two assists), his best tally in a season since 2014-15 (17 goals, two assists).
Sheffield Wednesday's Adam Reach netted in the FA Cup last weekend versus Brighton, ending a 17-game run without a goal. Reach last scored in consecutive appearances between September and October 2018, with the first of those goals coming against Leeds.

There it is then, Hopefully the Lads will be full of confidence after that Cup showing and will be able to crack on and put previous cup hoodoos behind us, Great chance to give the Fans a show of intent
I'm going for a 2-0 scoreline with Harrison and Bamford Scoring

They want a striker. But they want a good striker. Rushing out to get a body in isn't the way to do it.

We need the right man. Not just any man.

Very true Lubo but the Dan James fiasco still smarts - especially as it probably cost us promotion. Plus it's all very well saying we need the right man but I believe few strikers would have performed worse than Patrick – brutal but sadly true.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Broadly speaking I think the Dan James transfer was how I want the club to ask. They identified their target and went after him. The blame, for me at least, is on Swansea pulling the rug out from under both us and him.

That's being said, I hope we can sort out a deal for Adams before the last week of the window.

The men at the top come across as pretty clueless - all too often they don't seem to get their priorities right.

I think that's difficult to say as we don't see what's going on. Obviously it's harder to agree a deal for a PL player getting gametime than it is for a youth player out if contract in the summer.

Things take time.

Adams seems ideal scenario but they need a plan B and C - they clearly failed in that respect with Dan James.

The manner of the James saga means that even if we had a Plan B it might not have been acted on as Swansea just decided to stop responding to us a few hours before the deadline.

yet again we fail to capitalise on possession and conversion rate. and how the fook that 1st goal go in

Radz needs to make a statement to the fans and sign Evans or Gayle or Bowen otherwise this is all going to go pear shaped again. Club and fans need a lift and it needs to happen now.

Lubo, the problem i and others had with the Dan James scenario, was not what happened on 31st Jan. We clearly got shafted. It's why we were still waiting on 31st Jan.

We had a limited budget last jan, prioritised a keeper... and didn't cut a deal with anyone until the kiko deal was done, because we didn't know what we could afford. We then haggled and tried to get James on the cheap. Fair enough if he's not mission critical - but loads of transfer deals go south at the end of the window - other clubs come in etc... we gave them the opportunity to shaft us.

January is difficult - but if you really need someone you need to have a deal lined up before January plus some contingencies. You give the selling a club a deadline and then move on. Allegedly we've done that with Southampton, so maybe we've learned. But our transfer window was a shambles last year... because cash was tight

The James scenario was down to his Mother club, he thought it'd all been done and dusted, he was as surprised as anyone when it fell through!..

Apparently he was happy right up until he was recalled!..
