Marcus Rashford appreciation thread

Whether you’re Ole in or Ole out or even Ole shake it all about there has to be some love for this kid. All three managers he’s worked under have contributed to what we’re seeing now - probably one of the few positives there is to having so many managers in a short space of time - how much one can learn from all those philosophies

He’s a lot more comfortable playing as a wide man/inside forward and that’s where Southgate sees his future as does Ole. The jury for me is out about whether or not Martial is the long term answer for that central position but I do feel Rashford has cemented his place coming in from the left (while sometimes playing as a split striker)

He’s just so clinical and a lot smarter than people give him credit for on the ball. Makes some very good runs and takes a bloody good free kick too. He’s deffo someone you want to build the side around and it’s funny how that with all the money spent he’s arguably our most successful outfield player post SAF and he cost nothing. And with our fans tendency to hype up and coming youth players it’s also amusing that he came from nowhere and is doing miles better than the overhyped players like Ravel and Wilson etc

Hopefully tonight he steps up as he has done so well since October and fires us into the next round ✌️✌️✌️

Marcus Rashford, take a bow 🤝

Angry? It's a message board forum. Just makes me laugh when you are going on about how some people don't give him credit for how intelligent he is on the ball, when that's the very thing you did. I doubt you even believed it at the time. It was just a way for you to push your agenda at that time. You'll happily criticise proper United people to support your obsession. Mercanaries like Lukaku, Pogba and Jose. Then you'll flip your opinion when it suits. Which is why people say you don't debate in good faith.

Mercenaries 😂

I’m sure Ole is working for free. And I’m sure Rash didn’t just get a huge contract upgrade.

There’s no agenda - do you not see this article where I’m praising Rashford? He has improved so my initial feelings were fair. That he was one thing and with time has become better.

You just can’t handle that at the time it was the sensible choice buying someone like Lukaku as we couldn’t just rely on Rash and that was a fair decision. Now Rash has moved on and it’s the time to trust in him.

He’s gotten more intelligent on the ball. I know you think that 18 year olds fresh out of the academy are the finished product but they often aren’t and Rash was no exception. He still has many flaws but he deserves credit for how hard he’s worked on the flaws he has overcome.

Still laughing at your ‘mercenaries’ comment 😂 Grow up mate
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Lukaku got too big and couldn't be bothered to run. Happy to take the money. You have yourself questioned Pogba's motivation and whether he is really injured. Jose appeared to do his best to get the sack at the end and take the payout. Yes, mercanaries. Primarily motivated by money.

I didn't want Lukaku because I thought he'd stifle Martial and Rashfords progress and I think he did. I said that they would flourish when he left and that is what has happened. I think they'll do better with a decent AM in behind them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He also kept Ole in a job with his vital goals so it’s not quite as simple as he couldn’t be bothered to run

If you know anything about Lukaku the man you’ll know he’s very much not a mercenary and seems to be quite down to earth. If he was a Merc he’d have gone to Italy and just phoned it in but he’s smashing it and is working under a manager who bothered to believe in him.

As for Pogba, I guess you’ve missed me slating him over the last couple of years when I could see he was phoning it in. I doubt Jose was trying to get sacked for the money. He was just another victim of Ed. You could see on the touch line how much he cared about the job.

Lukaku was lazy. When you've got Pogba shouting a team mate for not making runs, you know he's lazy. He got to big and never sorted the issue. He was happy to take the money and go through the motions. Just like Pogba.

As for Jose not wanting the sack, he started laying the foundations in the summer of his final season. We could all see it happening. Many on the boards that have seen his actions previously picked up on it and predicted what was coming. He played Herrera at CB FFS. Of course he wanted sacking.

Regarding Jose, I think he was dissatisfied by Ed not bringing in what was needed and he was frustrated that after our best post SAF season he wasn’t backed. I can accept he wasn’t happy but a manager being sacked for losing the dressing room doesn’t make him a mercenary . Was LVG a mercenary? That guy managed loads of clubs. It’s unfair really to call managers mercs as they just get hired to do a job (call one a mercenary and call them all one)

And for your first paragraph regarding Lukaku I’ll just ignore that as if you really think he’s a merc just because of one poor season then I’m afraid you’re wrong. Mercs don’t go to Italy and work as hard as he did to be a success. He just had a manager who knew how to get the best out of him.

You say I don’t debate in good faith but you’re showing here you’re not exactly innocent yourself

A footballer who can't be bothered to keep himself fit or run is a mercenary for me. Everton had the same problem with him. He just didn't run enough. He is still a good striker, but will never be top class. Not focused enough.

And yes you can call a manager mercenary. Gary Monk being the most obvious. Jose has shown such traits in purposely getting himself sacked at clubs once the chips are down. Rather than try and battle though he makes his position untenable and takes the payout.

He will go down as a very good striker who scored loads of goals everywhere he want as well as the top scorer for his country. Rashford would do very well to have anything like his career.

Again, read up on him. He’s far from a mercenary. In his long career he’s had one season where he wasn’t as fit as he should have been and that was down to the Belgian fitness coaches who made him bulk up for the World Cup. I didn’t notice you calling Rooney a mercenary just because he put on some weight - and for more than just one season

Your man wouldn’t likely be in a job without Lukaku’s goals - so it’s not like he didn’t try. And don’t forget the momentous effort he put into the Liverpool game where he was shunted onto the right for the whole game

I did call Rooney a mercenary actually. I was in favour of swapping him for Mata when that deal was a possibility. We all knew that he didn't look after himself. Too much smoking, beer and fast food. He had a great career, but I think he could have been even better than he was had he looked after himself.
