Split Fan Base

I have noted with interest the split opinion among united fans regarding Solskjaer. Reminds me of how the Arsenal fan base virtually split in the last 8 years of the Wenger reign. Make no mistake, The longer he stays the relationship becomes toxic, a few stadium altercations and induces apathy as you have seen at Arsenal football club in recent years.

But this is not a new, phenomenon. Clear split in ideologies between the impatient modern day fan and the more traditional old school fan.But what I found interesting is this split tends to happen after a long successful period or after a legendary manager leaves. I don`t seem to remember this split among liverpool fans but to be frank they have been sheit for about 30 years.

But you can see the chaos the drop off from Fergie has caused at United, same thing to an extent with barca as they struggle to hit the Pep and Enrique standards. Clubs find themselves changing managers either looking for a long term approach whilst looking for short term benefits.

Do fans ever sit and consider such things when a new manager comes in to replace a legendary manager or after a successful period. Compare Arteta who comes in at a very low point in Arsenals history, similar to Klopp who came in when the bar was kinda really low and the only way was up.

Compare it to replacing Fergie or when Pep replaced Jupp heynckes, the standards are therefore very high and difficult to maintain.

Do fans ever think about that or we just moan because we can? Do City fans and Liverpool fans ever think about how patient they may have to be when Pep and Klopp leave their club?

All I can find for the definition of "fan base" is:

Fan Base
noun: fanbase:
Those who use this term shall not be invited to the pub.
"He used the term fan base and was subsequently uninvited to the pub"

Seems to make sense.

Tbf, I think it was a lot easier for Liverpool fans to be patient because they had recruited a manager who had great success previously. One of the main reasons things fell off at Dortmund was because the club were constantly losing their best players, not because Klopp wasn't a good coach.

They also played an incredibly entertaining brand of football, it's worth waiting for 2-3 years to see if a manager like that can work the same magic at yor club.

It's harder to be patient when your manager's best achievement was taking Everton to the CL qualifying stages once, or winning the Norweigen Tippeligaen with Molde and has a lower win rate with Cardiff than Neil Warnock, Dave Jones and Russell Slade...

That said, chopping and changing managers and just signing big names players clearly hasn't worked, so a new approach was needed and it will take time for that to work, whether Ole's the person to get United back to some form of competitiveness will remain to be seen.

Personally speaking it was easy for me to be patient because at the time Klopp joined we'd only won the league cup in the last decade!

At the time he joined he was a significantly better manager than we probably had any right to expect. Patience is easy when you've got the best manager you could realistically hope for!

I wouldn't necessarily say the same is true with Utd; my personal opinion is that they could expect to attract far better than Ole.

The BAR was set really low with the appointment of Woy who despite being a good experienced manager was way past his sell by date.

Sometimes its not about the manager but more about what the club is trying to achieve long term which must align with fan expectations.

As a manager you really buy yourself time with playing good attacking football. If you are going to player counter attack football then you have to win trophies like Jose in the past or Zidane and Allegri.

Wrong, the longer he stays the mot=re toxic it will become the OP says..
Fundamental difference..
Wenger went stale, and Arsenal were too cowardly to pull the trigger. Ole has only been there a year, he will not be given 8 years to be crap.

Liverpool won 2 Champions Leagues in their 30 years of being schite. You only wish Arsenal could be that schite

15 years of schite from Arsenal already so only 2 CL's required in the next 15.

Not sure you put the discussion in the right direcetion with your comment
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just giving the counter point in regards to your team as you appeared not have noticed your half as long in the doldrums with less than half of Liverpool's successes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And?

3 FA Cups
4 League Cups
1 UEFA Cup

1 World Cup

Not bad for being crap.

One of your CL was a complete fluke. despite the tin trophies you won nobody considered you a top side, especially outside England
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry - which one was the 'complete fluke'?!

Was it the one we fluked not one, not 2 but 3 goals AND a pen shoot out?!

Or the one we fluked not one but two goals?!

Although I don’t agree with the OP’s assertion that Liverpool were sheite for 30 years, I feel like people are focusing more on that small bit, rather than the point of the article.

The questions raised are valid.

Not sure why a Celtic/Rangers fan is so keen to defend Liverpool, but there we go.
