Bobby Brown

RANGERS legend and former Scotland manager Bobby Brown has passed away aged 96.

The legendary goalie - who was Gers' oldest living player - spent a decade at Ibrox and kept an amazing 109 clean sheets in 296 games.

Lovely man.

Rest in Peace.

Even I'm not old enough to have seen him play.

Forever indebted to him for managing the Scottish team that won 3-2 at

Wembley back in '67. He had admittedly a world class squad at his

disposal back then. Under Brown Scotland was the first team to beat the

recently crowned World champions - a team that included Simpson,

Gemmell, Greig, McKinnon, Baxter, Wallace, Bremner, Law, & Lennox.

Nobody about today who could lace any of these guys' boots.

Sleep well Bobby.

But I gave more background detail.

And I read threads backwards right?

And I have a touch of 'veritas' - as I remember it.

We all went mental.

Crazy that he gave a European cup winner keeper his debut.

It was a strange year altogether.

Squad so strong Billy McNeill & Jinky not in with a shout.

2 teams from the same city in both Euro finals a couple weeks before.

We were riding high - as Pointy would say.

Yet missed out on qualification to the 1970 world Cup

Think he had some run ins with club managers regarding releasing players

The qualifier against W Germany was brilliant. Gemmell sent off for kicking a German player up the erse as he thought he had a shout at scoring.

Great game.

Helmut Heller iirc...a brilliant watch on you tube

Heller was a helmet right enough.

Never tire of watching the clip.

My favourite is the German version complete with tragedean music.

At 37s Heller knows he's getting it & gives a wee leap in a vain attempt

to reduce the impact.

If he doesn't have the Frank Zappa tune at the funeral it's a wasted opportunity.
