Liverpool's Dominance

"Liverpool's dominance is now also psychological. When the rare big chances come along opponents are snatching at them in fear of missing - saw it at Spurs last week and with United today." - Phil McNulty on Twitter this evening.

9/10 times Martial scores that.

9/10 times Son scores that chance last week.

Teams now have to get through 3 brick walls of Fabinho then Van Dijk and then Alison (Henderson over the last 2 months).

When opponents are through and have a chance it's like they can't believe that they have an opportunity and completely make a hash of it. I've noticed this over the last few weeks and it's a common theme against us. It's not just a coincidence.

We've hit teams psychologically before they've even stepped onto the field.

Mentality monsters.

So what is it when we miss chances, like the Salah one today?

I'll be honest with you.

our full backs are no longer even trying to block crosses. they are purely focused on letting guys stay out as far as possible and cross for vvd to head every time.

our cbs and cms are letting guys shoot from poor angles and dropping off cos alisson holds everything.

it doesn't look great defending at times but they are so confident in the two we let teams have more than they should.

utd ended up with two right footed players on their left side with us letting them cross cos vvd had everything.

Salah was a shocker. no disrespect but if that were kane or aguero or vardy that's a handy tap in.

I'd give mane an out on his two as the first just didn't quite sit down for him and the second was on bad foot and he focused on keeping it down and on target. it wasnt great but at least he forced the save.

Salah was shockingly poor.

we should've won by 3 or 4. again.

it's almost like we are playing in bursts, almost... I dunno.. saving ourselves for something

but seriously salah needs to sharpen that up. really poor miss.

Martial has been like this his whole united career. Inconsistent or just not very good. He doesnt score that 9/10 at all. Id wager hed miss more often than score that chance.

Funny you say this because I watched the last few mins of the CL final again a while back and Kane's only shot in the game came in like the 90th minute or so and it was on his left foot. VVD could have easily closed him down but just let him have strike it on his weaker foot, the confidence of the man knowing he's got Alison behind him.

I was thinking about this actually and I think it's more than that.

The opposition have such few opportunities that when it comes they almost have to score...but, they have been under the cosh and part fatigue and part pressure that they have to.score they are not relaxed and suffer.

Having a great keeper and CB always makes a difference, this psychological nonsense though is just a journo trying to be a smartarse
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Are you saying psychology isn’t part of sport?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Its almost as Blobby is unaware that Fergie was a disciple of following sports psychology including reading and re-reading books on it.

When we had Schmeichel it was the same for us panic for the striker, that chance today Martial would take 99 times out of 100 he isn’t a blaze over the bar guy just bottom corner across the keeper
