We need a 'Super Frank'

In support of Biggish's article, we do need to our support act to contribute with their share of goals and quickly, to take some of the pressure off of Tammy.

But and I could be seriously wrong in my observations here. More clever people and opta, could well prove me wrong...........

I think we seem to be lacking a player willing to take a shot and we seem to trying to almost walk the ball into the net.

I know it's not easy, but the 2 outfield players we've struggled to replace so far for me are JT and Super Frank himself.

For me, if we had Super Frank from 2003 onwards in this current team, we'd be comfortable top 4 right now. As in, I wouldn't have any doubts.

As it is, and I'm not using this as a platform to dig at Sarri here, but it may yet come down to what i felt was last season's ending.

"Who threw away top 4 the least."

We have not won back to back league games since November. And whilst i agree we were always going to be inconsistent this season, i do think we could've and should've got a few more points on the board.

"Who threw away top 4 the least."

I've said this so many times and gotten so much heat for it

We got top 4 last season because Tottenham, Man Utd and Arsenal all collapsed and we stumbled over the line. Luckily this year it does look like something similar may happen but we're so far off City and Liverpool.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But I thought you thought we should be challenging for the league? Now you're saying we only got top 4 cos the other teams were so bad...

? How is that a contradiction?

We do, and I think Frank sees Mount as that guy long term (as do I). He's got the intelligent off the ball runs & the drive to keep trying to find/create those half space openings, just needs a bit more refinement on his ball ability. Very easy to see why Lampard identifies with him, many would've summed him up the same way as a player at Mount's age.

This isn't as much of an issue for Lampard as it was for Sarri, he desperately needed a ready made 'Super Frank' last year, as Lampard's more tactically flexible in general, but it's a valuable weapon for any team who expect to dominate possession the majority of their games.

Maybe he's already there, I love Frank as a player as much as anyone and saw him from his debut to retirement. When we signed him I thought we'd been robbed but in hindsight he was a steal. His premier League goals tally started to really take off in his third season, 03/04. What impressed me most about Frank was how he developed from the following season when the big money signings started to arrive, he didn't role over for them. It seemed to spur him on to bigger and better performances.

In lamps first season, he missed 1 game scored 5 prem goals, in his 2nd season he played all 38 games and scored 6.

When I say we may already have him, look at mounts stats so far, he was played 22 games I think, 2 of them subs appearances and his goal tally is 5 do far.

I'm not saying he is the next Frank, it's far too early for that but I do think it's far to early to dismiss him as well, after all there are not many Frank type players and certainly no garrauntees.

Some of our greats took time to develop, I'm not saying all our youth will but they aren't doing so bad and I would like to see how they fair with one or two class signings. I think we have the core of an excellent team already and we should build on that. I believe and hope that is what we will do.

A good place to start the analysis of Chelsea would be to quietly reflect on the recent loss to Newcastle and simply say to yourselves: "We never used to LOSE games in that way, WHAT IS HAPPENING?"

It will be interesting to see which team really shows up for the Arsenal game.

We're lacking a creative, inventive central player to nit our attack together and help open up stubborn defences. Seems as clear as daylight to me.

To an extent Barkley played that role against Burnley in a game where we otherwise may well have struggled as we've done too may times before in similar games this season.

Not saying Barkley is the long term solution though, especially as you never really know what kind of performance you're going to get from him.

As things stand we seem to fall to pieces when teams deny us the space to operate and we become incredibly predictable in our attacking patterns and play.

We're going to have to adapt though as teams are going to play like this against us all the time now, both home and away.

If the club aren't already preparing a move for Jack Grealish this summer then they need to start now.

He put in some lovely touches on saturday...but he's not the answer

I mooted Sigurdsson some time ago...maybe he's a step down from an on form Fabregas...but he's the sort we need
Dare I say it...Erikson...similar type...seems to have lost his mojo though

I've been at St James with a much more experienced team and seen us lose worse than that.
