With Rashford likely to miss the majority of the rest of the season we are very much in need of a striker if we have any ambition of making top 4/winning the Europa.
Here are 7 options of varying quality/availability..
1) Cavani
2) Jovic
3) Giroud
4) Piatek
5) Gotze
6) Alcacer
7) Lllorente
Ideally a loan deal for one of those - though Jovic is a very good striker who might do well here away from the craziness of playing for Real on a permanent deal. The Larsson signing back in 2006 was very good for the younger players in the squad - here’s what SAF said...
"On arrival at United, he seemed a bit of a cult figure with our players. They would say his name in awed tones."
Would Cavani have the same effect? Someone like Greenwood would learn so much.
Anyone have a preference?

hindsight is a wonderful think

For some of us its not hindsight

If we really wanted to make 4th the target this year, we probably needed to get 6 players, spend 350 million,
————
No. Because the team we’re competing for 4th place have spent nothing and also have a relative novice coach. They have gotten 13 points from their last 11 league games and still are 5 points ahead of us. It didn’t need some record breaking investment. Just the right investment.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We probably did need 6 players tho in truth... What we got wrong is the order of priority
Like you did too
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We didn’t need to spend £350 million though
Could have kept Smalling. Brought in Tielemans, Dembele and Ricardo and I’m sure we’d be better off than we are now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I never mentioned the cost... No point as you're only guessing on targets and prices
We needed 2 midfielders... Striker... Winger... Rb... Cb
Midfield should have been more of a priority than cb imo... Maintained that all along
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The £350 million is what the other poster mentioned that I was originally replying to.
As to the Order of signings, I’m not taking any flak for that as I’m just a guy on a forum. I don’t control the order in which the manager signs players. He chose a CB and a right back and that is all on him.

Cop out
Maguire was your summer poster boy and you wouldn't listen to reason
You can't give him flak for doing what you wanted and not get a bit of stick
Anyway.... We need signings now... Simple as that
Also... Ive no faith the club will manage to get them

Shugs, in Rob’s defence he did maintain that midfield should be addressed as well. And stupidly thought the club would get these things done and that Maguuwould still be a good signing as a result. We knew better.

Exactly
I will always own up to my stupidity and told Darren a few months back I was wrong on Maguire
But as he said I thought we’d also bring more people in. I sometimes forget just how stupid the people at United are.

I'd imagine Ole had a similar expectation

True but I’m sure he has some say in what he wants and even to this day he insists AWB and Maguire were his preferences

And they are good players who will play 6-7 years for us. I don't think there's another signing we can say this about

But he has the patience we need, the dedication to youth which is the foundation of Man United ethos.
—————
That literally means nothing though. We may as well promote the youth coach. That sort of vague set of attributes would barely get a manager a job at a league 2 club.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Great. It got Ole his at United. Can't blame us for getting the absolute opposite of Jose to steady the ship and streamline the team. He is doing his job, inspite of the management being foolish and the criticism because he knows that he cannot think like you all are combined with the stupidity of Ed. It would probably hamstring us for another 2-3 years. And while many think we have unlimited money, we really do not. And the prices of a player are an extra 20-30% when it comes to us.
We must be patient or else we risk repeating the same mistakes over again. I'm tired of this sheit. The short cuts just keep on biting us. Build a good team and the success, sustainable success will come.
