25 years since Le Kick

Yep, 25 years since Cantona did the world a favour and kung fu kicked a racist twaaaaat in the crowd who taunted him after being sent off against Palace. This was back in the days where you either went to watch United play live, hope it was one of the rare live United games (at that time maybe one in every 8/9 games at best) or like me, you huddled around radio 5 and listen to radio commentary which still to this day shiiiits all over what the TV commentators do.

Killed our season tbh. We still made a cup final and came second but it’s fair to say it probably would have been a double had Cantona not been banned. Apparently at the time we were offered Zidane but SAF thought Cantona wouldn’t come back if we brought in Zinedine.

What are people’s memories at the time? I thought the Cole and Hughes partnership was underrated. And that black kit to this day is the best kit we ever had.

Don’t remember too much, just that everyone was outraged and shocked by it and I thought it was bloody brilliant! Apart from the ban they gave him.

Still don’t get why everyone made so much of his Trawler speech tbh, pretty straightforward stuff

Everyone was getting their pants in a knot over it

I don’t even think he cane up with it, I believe it was his agent? Or advisor he was with.

Shea lebouff later used it in the nymphomaniac presser when they were being awkward

It was Eric that recommended Zidane to the club, but yes it was thought the position they both played was too similar to have both!

I was at OT for Eric's comeback game against Liverpool following the ban .. good times.

Doesn't matter if the guy was racist to be honest, the kick was still madness. A more peaceful approach to racism would work better.

`Memories just a tad foggy, but for a minute there I thought I was back watching the real thing live. Amazing how good those lego-men are when it comes to re-creating historical events. The FA were real cants with that ban - the pikey had it coming tbf.

The only way something like this will happen again, is if Phil Jones is running off the pitch, trips and goes flying into the crowd headbutting a fan.

How long should his ban be?

Christ - that could really fackin happen! Jones moment of the year- but the FA won't ban him - they know he's more harm ON the pitch than off!

A kick in the teeth for racists is more effective 👍🏼

Naaah. Lashing out at racists is hardly the example we want to set, is it? Two wrongs don't make a right is a cliche but it rings true. Would be dangerous if that kind of reaction were to be applauded or encouraged or seen as acceptable.

Kick racism out of the game is not literal
