Slimani to United?

Islam Slimani has reportedly asked for his loan deal at Monaco to be cut short so he can join us. Possibly one the more underwhelming potential signings over the past 25 years but in the kingdom of the blind, is the one eyed man king? (Meaning that with potentially no strikers left soon, would him joining be better than nothing?)

He’s done fairly well for Monaco so far this season - has 7 goals and 7 assists in 13 games for them. But it is the French league and he was no great shakes for Leicester when he was in England. Apparently Cantona is a fan weirdly.

Anyone want this signing?

Mitrovic makes much more sense to me. Whether we can get Fulham to sell him when they are chasing promotion is another matter.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Probably not - at best they’d sell him in the summer

Promotion = more than anything we’d offer for him this window

Agreed. With Leeds doing their usual faltering trick, they have a chance. Although Leeds have made a couple of decent looking signings. If that Augustin lad can finish then they should still come up. Bamford for all his hard work has missed some great chances this season.

If he's got 7 goals and 7 assists in 13 games, why are they ending his loan early, or why would he want to leave early?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Because footballers are foolish and greedy. He probably thinks theres a possibility of a perm deal later down the line on better money than monaco can give him. despite the fact this league does not suit him and he is clearly performing well there.

That said he isnt first choice. But he wouldnt be here either so i doubt that has anything to do with it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He was first choice but then a managerial change occurred at Monaco and now he's not.

It's not that this league doesn't suit him, our style of play didn't suit him. When he first came he was very good, his goals and assists ratio was brilliant but we made the fatal mistake of trying to play him as if he was Vardy, as opposed to delivering balls into the box for him to get his head on.

There has been no better striker in the air at Leicester since the days of Alan Smith, unless we class Walshie in his years up top. If you deliver a decent ball he will more often than not get on the end of it and invariably score. Another issue we had was he'd come in, score and then get dropped as soon as Vardy was back. This obviously isn't a good way to keep a player happy.

Personally I would more than welcome him back at Leicester because he offers something we don't have, an aerial threat. Like all strikers though, you would need to play to his strengths and keep crossing balls into the box and the earlier the better and if you do he will score goals.

Slowmani is really bad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He's not really bad, you just need to play to his strengths. It's like saying Vardy is really bad because he doesn't get his head on crosses. Different types of player need different styles of football and Slimani should never have been expected to fill the role that Vardy does, in the same way that Vardy can't fill the role that Slimani is suited to.

Like all strikers, they fit one system hence why Benteke and Bony suited Villa and Swansea but not Liverpool and City. You're not going to deliver balls into the box and expect Vardy, Firmino, Aguero etc to outjump centre halves consistently and you can't expect Slimani to run in behind and stretch defences. All strikers are suited to playing one style, though you are right in saying it's not a style you play so you'd have to adapt.

Or maybe Benteke and Bony didn't work at Liverpool or City because neither of those two players are that good.
