Bruno Fernandes - Here We Go!

Breaking across various Portuguese media outlets is the news that Manchester United have finally agreed a deal with Sporting Lisbon for Bruno Fernandes after improving the offer they made over the weekend.

The deal involves a €55 million flat transfer fee with €10 million in achievable bonuses plus a further €15 million in bonuses which are more difficult to achieve.

Bonuses include:

€5 million for a specific number of games played
€5 million for Champions League qualification this season
€5 million for winning the Premier League
€5 million for winning the Champions League
€5 million for Bruno winning the Ballon d'Or

The player will sign a 4 and a half year contract earning him between €4-4.5 million per season.

It's also being said Sporting will get 10% of any future sale and the player will travel to Manchester tomorrow.

As much as I'd have liked us to have signed him at the start of the window, well done to the club for actually managing to negotiate. Seems like a pretty good deal for us. Looking forwards to seeing the lad play. In a month's time we could have a midfield of McT, Pogba and Fernandes, which will be a vast upgrade on what we've had the last few weeks, with Fred also pushing for a spot.

So it took Ed a whole month to meet the asking price. Absolute cracking work once again from our CEO

To be fair, if the reports are to be believed we’ve “met it” by building in add-ons that probably won’t materialise. But it does make me wonder why this wasn’t done last summer.

They've said we distanced ourselves from the player in the summer as we prioritised other areas which is what some of us feared.

Loving that bonus structure, very Ed Woodward.

At best €5m for the appearances, the rest looks pretty safe!

That doesn’t necessarily mean we prioritised the defence over other areas though.

From an attacking and entertainment point of view though I could live with that for now. Perhaps even a diamond will be used with Pogba LM and Bruno at the tip. Two of Matic, Fred and McT for the other positions. Slimani, of course, leading the line up front. We would need more from our full backs though

----------------------------------------------

I don't see the point in signing Slimani, even as an extra body.

We don't play in a way that suits his strengths and we don't have many good crossers of the ball.

Surely there's somebody out there more mobile who's profile is more in line with what we're missing in Rashford.

It's probably too late for us to start negotiating for a striker but who knows. If/when we complete the signing of Bruno, it might give Judge and Woodward a bit of swagger.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I was joking with Slimani in there and, as you say, not the kind of player that is a Rashford substitute. He may offer an alternative though and an aeriel threat in the box could be good against teams who defend deep against us.

What else could it possibly mean though?

Seeing as we spent most of the window pursuing two defenders for £125 million, I'd say that statement is bang on.
