Wouldn't it make sense to keep Chambers & Holding due to them being homegrown? Clearing them out wouldn't have much effect on future transfers.


Mustafi and Mavro literally leave no reason to keep them (OK Mavropanos may also be homegrown? but has no real first team experience). I admire Mustafi's mentality to knuckle down despite the obvious abuse he recieves, but simple fact is neither are good enough.

Pablo Mari Vilar needs to be added.

Didn't think he'd be on the way back but it looks like he is! Clocking up those miles!

Holding is 24 and has played a whopping 59 league games half of which came in the Championship. Even with injuries that is woeful.

We were also unbeaten in every game he started last season.

Its obvious why we want loans for CBs coming in Jan.

a) It allows to assess the player without spending loads of money and then being stuck with them for years like Mustafi.

b) It keeps a space open for Upmencano or anyone else who maybe available with greater potential in the summer.

Ideally next season we will have Sok, Luiz and a fit Holding to build a team around.

That will be allow Saliba, Chambers (after injury) and whoever to come in or stay after loan to slowly integrate into the team.

Obviously Mustafi is going to leave in the summer.

Have to agree with Gillespie. I have a feeling Holding isn't going to make the cut, while Chambers actually might be good enough to be back up. Saliba will have to get over his injury problems and adapt to a new league (as with any new signings).

Sok and Luiz aren't great, but if we put them in a system where they're protected then we can get good performances from them while we really assess our younger defenders.

Holding is quality. We know this. So I'm not sure why you think he won't make it. I'd put Mustafi on the list to go before Rob. So for me it's Mustafi and Mavropanos. And possibly Luiz (purely on the basis of age).

He can be, but I feel like he gets a bit overhyped because of those games and his injury record is pretty awful

Holding played well in a back 3 last season. We're yet to see him do it consistently in a back 4

Mustafi, Luiz and Sokratis out of contract in June 21.
Chambers out of contract in June 22 and will miss a lot of football between now and then.
Mavropanos out on loan and was not getting a look in.

4 of them really need replacing in the next 18-24 months.
We already have Saliba, we have Mari. Well on our way to a new CB division.
