Leicester City - Transfer deadline day

Looks like it’s going to be an interesting day. So I thought this needed its own thread.

It’s the kind of day when BBC Radio Leicester dispatch Ian Stringer to sit outside the training ground all evening. Every so often he’ll report what he’s eaten and how many lights are on at Belvoir Drive. No doubt with the occasional cut back to the studio with ‘blokey’ humour that falls rather flat.

Meanwhile Brendan will be sitting at home watching Corrie and the new Star Trek series on Prime - and John Rudkin will be servicing the fax machine.

How is he on the ball Tam - seems to be a key criteria of ours that our centre backs are comfortable with the ball at their feet....

Not great on the ball. He isn't awful, but he was the worst of our backline. Ok playing simple passes out, but his longer distribution can be questionable when pressured. One of the reasons he has ended up on the bench, as he is defensively sound.

Tam - The suggestion I'm seeing is that he isn't making your bench, although he would make ours.
Granted it's an odd sort of move from your end considering we're looking to strengthen in order to hold our position from an onslaught from... you.

Also, do you know whether he's cup-tied?

I think Kilman has been on the bench ahead of him recently. Perhaps he has overtaken him and that's the reason. Would still be a strange one though, given we have been playing three midfielders across the back three for the last few months.

I don't think he played in the FA Cup, but I can't really remember.

He has played in the Europa League, but you don't need to worry about that.

I’ve seen a suggestion that signing Bennett is to allow Benkovic to go out on loan. Clearly the latter is not seen as reliable cover and Morgan has had recent injuries.

A strange one though. Seemingly swapping being 4th choice CB at Wolves to potentially 3rd choice CB with us.

Sensible squad cover signing perhaps, but doesn’t really scream out that we’re going for it in terms of top four.

Joby - Agreed to an extent; it looks like trying to hold onto what we have rather than accelerating. I wouldn't be comfortable with either Morgan or Benkovic playing a lot of games, and frankly I'm not comfortable with either on the bench these days because of the injury problems they both have. I wouldn't trust either to come on for an injured/sent-off Evans or Soyuncu and see out the match without breaking down. I think this guy has been brought in because he probably can.

It's solid if unspectacular cover for an accident waiting to happen.

Maybe it's to have a more realistic option of going 3 at the back?

Long balls won't be a problem with us, our defenders don't play long balls, even at times when a good boot down the field is perhaps the best option. He'll only need to make short passes along the backline and into one of our central midfielders coming deep to get it. Would that work for him?
