Has there ever been a meet up of

all the JA606 boards, like an AGM, where everybody gets to meet other posters off other boards? A chance to cement friendships or air grievances. Get things of your chest so to say.

If not may be worth asking Admin to set up a time and a venue. The chance for new friendships to emerge. Put a face to a username. Admin for all we know may actually be a woman.

Daws organised a 5 a-side tournament a few years ago I believe, which was well attended.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That’s when I met everybody.

In the pub after the game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I was gonna attend that but I couldn’t make it
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Out of interest, why are you called 'palmers' spur? You from Palmers Green?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes

Do you know the area Winston ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I do mate - one of my best mates grew up around the corner.

Years ago he took me for a pint in the pub just off the North Circular, can't remember the name. One bloke started hitting another with a pool cue while everyone else just carried on drinking!

Some lovely properties around there - up through the town and sort of on the left from memory. Haven't been there for years though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I couldn't afford in Palmers Green There are some nice properties there. I managed to afford a flat in Bounds Green a year or so ago. It's quite a decent area and I'm close to the overground and the tube.

I'm not sure of the pub you mean, there is a pub called the Springfield Arms and one called the Occasional Half - both shiiitholes which I try to avoid, serving pissswater like Stella and Fosters. I generally drink in the Ranelagh near Bounds Green tube, or the Starting gate in Ally Pally, or sometimes Winchmore Hill.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Palmers, I used to drink in the Ranelagh on Bounds Green Road for about 40 years. I used to live in Durnsford Road. Small world. I haven`t been in the pub for about 10 years now. It hasn`t changed much over the years, other than it used to be two separate bars when I first started going in there in the 1960s. I used to have the odd pint in the Starting Gate as well, when it was a proper pub.

Not that many pubs in around Bounds Green really, only other pub is the Springfield next to my old school. Better than it used to be.

How long you been going in the Ranelagh mate? I used to run my local gang from that pub.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Nice Sandy

Yeah small world. I moved to Bounds Green a year ago (only from Palmers Green / Southgate), so only been drinking there regularly for a year or so. I like it in there, people are friendly and there's never any trouble. Plus they do nice pale ales which is what I drink, play music I like, and have a good size beer garden.

I can't say what the Starting Gate was like in the 60s as I wasn't born but it's decent enough - don't go there as much as I do the Ranelagh, but never any trouble in there.

The Springfield Arms is in dire need of a makeover - so tired looking in there and the beer is crap. Plus there's always bouncers on the door - why would that be necessary if it didn't occasionally kick off in there

My grandfather used to drink in the Bird and hand between and after the world wars - it's on the other side of Green Lanes, did you ever go in there?

I grew up just a few minutes off the N Circular Rd, over in Hendon. Memories are a bit hazy now, we left for Spain before I turned 12.

Yeh I have been in the Bird in Hand back in the day, it is over by Wolves Lane, just off the Wood Green End of WHL, I think that is the one. I still use the CIU club in WHL from time to time, but not a great drinker these days, but still like to pop into pubs and clubs to catch up with mates, even if I don`t always have a drink, I will have a soft drink.

The Springfield was always a bit of dump, I used to go to school next door to the place. Our School Caretaker spent his life in there, a good example to us all. They refurbished it a few years back, and I had the occasional Saturday Lunchtime in there with a couple of mates, and there was never any trouble. But I believe they do have the odd bit of trouble in the evening.

Sounds nice

Just had a quick look and where the pub was is now a TFC Supermarket!

No idea why we met there but yeh, it was a right dump. You know it's rough when two blokes are scraping and everyone else is not even surprised. It was mid afternoon

Don't spend a lot of time over that way these days but there are some lovely parts.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Ahhh...the Faltering Fullback / Manhattan - yeah that definitely was a shiiithole
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Palmers, it used to be the C@o ck Tavern, then they turned it into Manhattans, a late night club, aroundabout the 1970s/80s I think, never went in it after that.

Ha!
I grew up stones throw from the N circular road too.
But in the eastend mate. In fact, I used to be in the vicinity of the Boleyn ground area quite a bit.
Wouldn’t recognise most of it now 😝
