Ed Woodward

Ed Woodward statement read out to recent Man Utd fans forum included:

“As a club and a board, we recognise we are not yet where we want to be. As part of the rebuild we see this coming summer as an important opportunity.

“Is important to note that the commercial elements of the club are geared to ensuring we have a self-sustaining model which supports investment in the playing side.

"It is the overwhelming priority of everyone at club to get us back to regularly challenging for Premier League + Champions League titles. Although progress may not always be smooth, everyone across club is focused + committed on playing their part in helping achieve those aims."

This bloke is literally the devil, prioritise the challenging for PL and CL titles and yet fail to replace half the players that have left the side properly. How's that working out for him? More flares are needed.

There was a similar instance where McGrath was miked up and bowling. Walking back to his mark, he told the commentary exactly how he'd set up the batsman, where he was going to bowl next, and would get a wicket. It all panned out precisely as he said.

Those two were deadly.

So why did Ed give Jose a new contract to then not back him in the summer only a few month later in his third season? A manager notorious for losing his sh-t for not being backed and also most commonly in his third season.

Did LVG want Di Maria, Falcao, Shaw or Herrera?

You’re also making the mistake of thinking that just because right now is bad, that it means things will improve. There’s very little to suggest that’s the case and while Ed is in charge, going by his previous 7 years in charge, we’re likely to see more of a mess.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sounds like LVG wanted those players, or at least was part of the decision to get them

Whilst not disagreeing with some of the sentiments I want to ask does anybody think maybe Ed is in a no win situation and is trying his best to clean up a mess that started with SAFs resignation.

I mean let's be honest there hasn't been a shortage of money invested, mostly in the wrong type of players who were wanted by managers in situ. I mean even Maguire was wanted by at least two managers (Jose and ole) and the club (and Ed ) paid a ridiculous sum to make it happen.

If this is finally the club deciding on a restructure and a plan then it won't happen over night. So maybe just maybe cut ed some slack for a couple of windows and see if things change.

Fwiw I never believed ole was signed as if he would deliver us to the promised land. He was and is a stop gap to try and put a plan/structure in place then a proper manager takes over. I honestly don't believe any proper manager wanted to touch us and even joses statements make a lot of sense in hindsight
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He’s been in the job seven years and all he’s shown is incompetence. He deserves to be cut no slack whatsoever.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

7 years since SAF went and the new managers appointed and backed though

Arguably Moyes was safs choice and the signings have been what the managers have wanted so he listened to the football men. It didn't work and he is getting the chit.

PS I'm playing DA to a degree here but also believe there is an element of Truth in what I say. Not a fan of Eds but sometimes the think he is between a rock and a hard place
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think the managers were let down by the scouting department, Ed himself said so. So we ended up buying poorly.

So who's to blame for not bringing the scouting department up to standard sooner?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Iirc when Moyes came in he was a stats man and bought in his own crew to do that work. He wasn't a go and watch the player type more what the sheet in front of him said.

Now I'm of the view that we have been playing catch up since Moyes and he was the biggest mistake to happen to the club.

As we have seen (and I believe why ole is in charge) it's not a quick fix to get things back to even remotely how they were. And why I have been patient with ole and believe it will take his 3 years and even then we may need time
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Ed said "We've also taken the chief scout role and evolved that, adding other people who can watch live games and recommend players. We weren't quite set up for that and I'll never forget David Moyes [...] asking why they weren't recommending players to him"

The structure hasn't been right, resulting in failed transfer policy.

As for Ole, I think he's taken us as far as he can. He has set the tone with youth and certain signings, but isn't technically or tactically good enough to get the most out of them.

Any decent appointment should continue this approach. I don't think it hinges on one manager.

That’s the thing, and if it does it shows the folly in such an approach. If Manchester United’s rebuild really does hinge on Solskjaer then we really are facked.

I don't like disagreeing with you Rosso, but as long as I've watched football, it's always the fans money that has been spent.
Investing in anything means you want a return on your money.
The Glazers have overdone it though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It wasn’t with Jack Walker, Mansour, Abramovic, Al Sayed, Rybolovlev at Monaco, Whatshisface at Anzhi, Mandaric, Berlusconi, Hayward, etc. These guys pumped billions and billions into their clubs in real terms.

And then there are those, probably the majority of owners, who reinvest the vast majority of their clubs’ profits back into the club itself, rather than simply using the organisation as a cash cow, as the Glazers do.

A billion quid, 52. A *billion* they have stolen from us.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm in no way being supportive of the Glazers here and I want them gone asap, but surely they have reinvested the profits in to the club? This has allowed us to spend 200m since the summer, to make (admittedly minor) improvements to Old Trafford, and to make changes to our academy and scouting system?
I guess, though, it's relative to how much they've taken out of the club which is obscene.

One thing I wont put on Ed is that I really dont think he's bought any players against a manager's will.

I hope who ever we get in, it's done early in the window. The Euros will be used as an excuse for this not happening, but we need to have the majority of signings on preseason.
