James Peter Greaves

Harry Kane is backing a petition to see Jimmy Greaves honoured.

Unbelievably, one of the greatest goal scorers of all time has never been recognised for his outstanding services to football etc.

Too right, this is a great campaign for a legend of English football.

Also, Jimmy will mark his 80th birthday next Thursday. Let's hope Spurs put on a show in the CL befitting of the great man.

That's creepy and not so unexpected from you Mr CreepAMinute!

You must read a lot of bin-dippers threads. God knows what sewer they get their daily ration of fish from!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just repeating what I heard elsewhere. Was it true you thought he was dead?

Without doubt the greatest ever British goalscorer. I was fortunate to have seen pretty well all his Spurs goals, and I even saw him score a couple for Chelsea at WHL.

Jimmy
----------------------------------------------------------------------
no he wasnt you senile old feck

jimmy greaves - 422 goals in 602 games

dixie dean - 425 goals in 489 games

as good as greaves was, Dixie Dean is the greatest ever English goalscorer
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Arthur Rowley scored 434 goals from 619 matches making him the greatest goalscorer of all time. 251 of those goals were when he played for Leicester.

Jimmy Greaves does deserve recognition for his contribution over the years. I was fortunate enough to see him play on many occasions. Everything was effortless about him, his skill and composure and he’d jump straight into my starting eleven.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Arthur Rowley scored nearly all of his goals in the lower leagues, so in no way can be compared to Jimmy Greaves, who scored all his goals in the top division.

That is true, and I expected someone to point this out. Nevertheless, his tally still exceeds others.

Yes not saying his tally doesn`t exceed all others, but I am sure there is a park footballer who has scored more than Arthur Rowley, would you say his total exceeded say Rowley`s, and would make him the best goalscorer of all time.

I think Greaves is widely regarded as the best of all time, with Dixie Dean in a close second position. Steve Bloomer, also worth a mention, scored nearly 400 career goals, and most of those were in the old 1st division.

Greaves, like Fowler after him, made it look easy. No need to smack it, when you can place the ball past the keeper.
Nice to see he may be recognised

But greaves was a fairly classy guy, flower was half rat. Both great players.

You have to take into account the era Greaves played in also, in his day there was little protection from referees, heavy pitches etc

it really is the worst running joke on this site
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Gets really boring, where a genuine mistake from a poster is being turned into a supposedly funny post around a very sick former Spurs player. Mostly the Liverpool supporters always bringing it up. They wouldn`t like it if opposition supporters had a go at any of their seriously ill ex players.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Context is important

People are mocking the fact morespurs didn't know a spurs legend was alive, and reported his death.
At no point has anyone mocked greaves himself ffs so grow a pair and stop being so sensitive and over reacting.

No one is hating on greaves so it's actually more pathetic you're trying to turn it into something it isn't.

It also makes it funnier, and that in no way tarnishes anything the legend greaves achieved in his career.

I suspect Jimmy himself would chuckle at the thought of a spurs fan thinking he had died!
