Remnants of the previous regime

It often gets mentioned that we need to get back to playing the way when Ole first came in. So looking back, there are three main reasons why we played well:

1) Jose was gone, players were happier.
2) Playing faster on the break. It would take a while for opposing teams catch on and adapt.
3) The habits from the Jose regime was still entrenched in the players. Ole didn’t have enough time to change much, aside from things like the atmosphere and adopting a more offensive strategy. So, we ended up playing a more attacking version of “Joseball". If fact, the way we played was quite similar to when we were chasing a game under Jose, but now we were starting games like this. A couple of months in and the old habits and patterns of play fade and are replace with the new habits. Since then the team has struggled with attacking play.

That initial period won’t be recreated. The foundation principles of how to play on the ball aren’t there, leaving Ole with little to build on. Bringing in a technical savvy coach should help, but I doubt that will happen with us seemingly having some sort of goal in having coaching staff all with a Utd background.

Going back to Jose, it’s a shame he didn’t adapt to play more offensive. Even when things were going downhill and he had nothing to lose, he still wouldn’t change. If he did, he probably would still be in the job now. It looked like he didn’t work on attacking football, but it was more his cautious setup that killed any attacking rhythm. Until we had to chase a game, that is.

What does the phrase “top modern coach” mean?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A coach in sync with how the game is now played at the top level. Focusing on technique, pass & move, runs to make, correct positions to occupy, passing triangles, creating overloads in certain areas, minimal touches and quick passing, etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Ahh, so a professional coach.

There are old fashioned coaches, innovative ones, tiki taka ones, and so on. We need coaches who match the way we want to play.

No one can answer this. I think they think it means 'one that gets his team to win games and trophies.

football person, philosophy, continuity, top modern coach......

Just buzzwords thrown around by people who pretend to have answers, but can’t substantiate them.

A top coach wins things.

A top modern coach wins things playing good football.

Not really.

Are you happy with the coaching staff?

only about 3 football teams can ever win things at any one time in English football in the 'modern game'.

which makes the all the other managers dinosaurs with your logic.

You are are crackers!

It all comes down to the resources at one's disposal.

Sheffield Utd won't win anything, but their coaching is clearly quite good.

but if you transferred that coaching staff to Anfield or Maine Road, or even Old Trafford they would win feck all an probably wouldn't qualify for the CL.

Why, because they're currently coaching at their level?
