Mezzala Ziyech

Agrees personal terms, signs on 5-year contract.

What he had to say:
I’m sitting here feeling proud. It’s finally my chance to have signed for such a huge club as Chelsea. I am looking forward to next season and hope we can achieve great things together.’
‘It’s a club with a rich history. Under the new manager (Lampard) they play attacking football with a lot of young talents and that is something that fits me. That attacking mindset was important to me.’

The first contact with his new manager was positive: ‘We’ve spoken quite a bit on the phone the last few weeks, about the playing style, his approach, the club and about me. He gave me a good feeling and that was big to do with the decision.
He’s also a midfielder so I can learn a lot from him.’

On impressive Stamford Bridge support atmosphere: ‘They were still supporting their side when we were 4-1 up, the support is great there. It was different then because I was there as the opponent but I’m looking forward to it.’

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia added: ‘We are delighted Hakim will be joining us in the summer, having been a key target of the club’s in this last window. He has consistently been one of the most dangerous attacking players in Europe in recent years, which we saw first-hand in our two games against Ajax in the Champions League.

‘We wish Hakim and Ajax all the best for the rest of the season and look forward to welcoming him to Stamford Bridge in the summer.’

"To date this season, Ziyech has registered nine goals in all competitions. No player has supplied more than his four assists in this season’s Champions League.

In a ranking of the top eight European domestic leagues since 2017/18, Ziyech is first for assists and chances created, and third for shots taken.'

Expect shoot on sight policy.

Said attacking ideology, Frank's legendary status and general savviness will be a big pull in signing top-tier talent.

Presumably resources will be spent next on a striker (Celtic's Odsonne Edouard or their former striker Moussa Dembele) and/or all-in on Sancho.

Edouard might be the smarter cost-effective striker move, to compete/challenge with Tammy.

I'm a Rangers fan but having seen Edouard and having seen Abraham, there is no chance of them competing.

Edouard is head and shoulders above him.

Mezzala Ziyech? More of a wide playmaker with license to shot.

Not that I'd want terminology like mezzala to weigh on him anyway. If fans who are familiar with these terms can learn anything from Jorginho it's too keep our mouths shut! That 'regista' tag did more harm to him than anything else last season, gave fans a false perception of what he actually was, thought it meant "super DLP" or something

Fash how does Edouard compare to Scott Sinclair?
I see Everton and Monaco are sniffing around him.
